Gandhi Memorial Kanyakumari
The Gandhi Memorial, Kanyakumari is temple built in 1956, to commemorate Mohanlal
Karamchand Gandhi, better known as Gandhi. Gandhiji, the ambassador of Indian struggle for
independence is considered the father of the nation. After his death, shortly after the
independence his body was cremated and the ashes disposed off in the sea adjoining

Thiruvalluvar Statue
The Thiruvalluvar Statue is located at Kanyakumari in the state of Tamilnadu in India. The statue
catches the attention of the visitors by the virtue of its size as well as the sculpture. This is the
statue of Tamil poet and saint Tiruvalluvar, the man who propounded in verses the Indian way of
life and, emphasizing on the importance of wealth, love and virtue. The Thiruvalluvar Statue is

the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and the Arabian ocean meet. Though planned in1979 and the

Tirunelveli

Udayagiri Fort
Nellaiappar Temple- The Nellaiappar Temple with Kanthimathi lies in the heart of the
town. The distance from the railhead is 2 km. The Nellaiappar Temple is essentially a
twin temple which is devoted to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi.
Sri Alzhiya Mannar Rajagopala Swamy Temple- This holy temple is located at the
Palayamkottai region in South Bazzar. It has a history of one thousand years and is a
well-known Perumal mandir.
Manjolai- Manjolai is a viewer's delight en route for Upper Kodaiyar. Travelers come
here for picnic and excursion. The distance is 57 km from Thirunelveli and the altitude is
1162 meters.
Thiruvalluvar Two Tier Bridge- This two level over bridge which is known as
Thiruvalluvar Bridge is located at the Tirunelveli Junction. It was built to keep away from
the rail line crossing. The bridge is 800 meters long and is the oldest two-tier bridge in
India. It started operating since 1972.
Maninuthar Dam- The Maninuthar Dam is a famous dam in Tirunelveli District and lies
at a distance of 47 km from Thirunelveli. The place is famous for its clean and healthy
weather and beautiful gardens. It is a popular spot for vacationing.
Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple- Sri Varadharaja Perumal Kovil or Temple lies in
Tirunelveli Junction. Located on the riverbanks of the Thamirabarani this temple is
dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
Mela Thiruvenkatanathapuram Temple- This famous temple is situated at a distance of 710 km towards the southwest of Tirunelveli. It lies on the riverbanks of the Thamirabarani
river and is dedicated to Lord Srinivasa. Thirunankovil is another name of the temple.
Upper Kodaiyar- Upper Kodaiyar lies on the southernmost point of the Western Ghats
mountain range edging the state of Kerala. The place is known for its scenic features and
lush green jungles. There are a number of rubber and cardamom orchards in this place.
