Lets assume that during the school year you are looking for a part-time job. It takes on
average 4 weeks to find one. Lets assume that you will find one for one semester (16 weeks).
Please calculate (in a rate per week) your rate of job finding f and your rate of job separation
s. (Hint: If f is the rate of job finding, then the average spell of unemployment is 1/f.)
What is the natural rate of unemployment for the population you represent?
Job finding 0,25 per week
Job separation 1/16
u/l = 0,0625/0,0625+0,25 = 0,2 -20%
u/l = 0,0625/0,0625+x = 10%
x=0,5625
x= 1/0,5625 = 1,8 > weeks
