INTRODUCTION: ECO-CLUB is a Registered Voluntary Organization registered under

the society’s act of 1350 FASLI in the year of 1995. Since it has been working in the fields
of Environment, Climate Change, Health, Education, Agriculture, and Disabled Welfare in
Mahabubnagar District. Our organization was established an Institution for the Mentally
Handicapped Children named as a “Brahma Institute for the Mentally Handicapped” in
the year 1998.
OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTION

¾ To protect Environment

¾ To bring awareness towards disability

¾ To rehabilitate and improve their qualities of lives of Persons With Disabilities

¾ To eradicate of misconceptions about the Mental Retardation in the Society.

¾ To establish the institution for the Mentally Handicapped

¾ To promote resource development, establish its development relate Institutions

ABOUT THE INSTITUTION

Initially the Institute was started with 12 students. Gradually year by year increase the
strength. In this academic year we are providing a Special Education for 62 students are
studying regularly under the system of Individual Educational Programme (I.E.P.). And also
we are providing Home Based Services to children Severe and Profound who are not
attending to our Special School.
In our Institution we are divided 8 groups according to age and ability of the child.
The groups are following:
™ Pre-primary
™ Primary
™ Secondary
™ Pre-vocational I & II
™ Vocational I and II
We are following the National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped (NIMH),
Manovikas nagar, Secunderabad guide lines and teaching methods. We provide the
Individualized Educational Programme (I.E.P.) and MDPS systems in our Special School.
We are giving admission to the Special Children in our Special School according to Clinical
Psychologist Assessment Report and Medical Certificate issued by the District Medical
Board.
ACTIVITIES IN BRIEF

INDIVIDUALISED EDUCATIONAL
PROGRAMME (I.E.P.): In this system our special
eaching staff planned an Individual Educational
Programme for each child. According to MDPS system
we are identified the special needs based on their own
current level of function and age appropriate. in
Curricular level as well as Co-curricular levels.

\ In Curricular activities Academic and concepts activities


\ Co-curricular activities Sports & Games, Music, Yoga, Dance,
Mass Drill and Painting and Pasting activities etc.

SELF HELP SKILLS: The children who are needed


support in performing their personal skills, those children
will train in Self-Help Skills through the special
educational methods accordance with base line of the
individual abilities and deflects in the area of personal
skills such as Eating, Drinking, Toileting, Dressing,
Brushing and Grooming skills are undertaken as per the
school schedule.
Eating
Therapeutic Interventions:

Physiotherapy: We have a mini Physio Therapy Unit in our


Institution and we follow the guidelines given by the Physio
Therapists of Navodaya College of Physiotherapy,
Mahabubnagar. The team also visits regularly to monitor the progress of the
individuals.

Occupational Therapy: Those who have problem with their hand functioning they provided
some improvement techniques by the specialist from the above college.
We are also giving behavior modification services those who are needed.

CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: The activities have planned in the IEP based on the individual
ability and needs. By using special teaching methods,
material and special teaching aids we practicing the below
activities to the special children.

\ Writing skills
\ Arithmetic Skills

CONCEPTS SKILLS:
\ Time, size, money and colour concepts
skills.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: The activities like;


\ Pasting
\ Drawing
\ Painting
\ Dance & Music
\ Computer games and film shows.
\ Physical Exercises Drawing

SPORTS & GAMES: For the physical education of MR


children we conducted sports and Games like;
\ Musical Chair
\ Snake and ladder
\ Throw Ball
\ Running
\ Caroms
\ Bating

VOCATIONAL ACTIVITIES:
The trainings on Vocational skills like;
™ File Pad making
™ Screen printing
™ Tailoring & Embroidery
™ Envelop making
™ Greeting cards preparation
™ Candle making Envelop making Embroidery

™ Computer and Type writing.


INVOLVEMENT OF THE PARENTS IN I.E.P. PROGRAMME:
After observation the child the special teaching staff list out the needs according to their
assessment report. In this system we are involving the parents to priorities of the goals.taking
of the I.E.P. Programme of the special children.

PREPARATION OF TEACHING AND LEARNING MATERIALS:


A material has prepared according the goal teaching purpose. The special educators prepared
low-cost and no-cost teaching aids suitable to the activities of children at the institute as well
as in home. These materials also relevant to their socio cultural background.

HOME BASED TRAINING PROGRAMME: This programme is mainly focused on the


persons those who are unable to attend our regular special school, we are proving the Home
Based Training Programme for parents and siblings of the child.

HOME VISITS: The main purpose of these home visits to observe the child’s behavior and
his activities at home environment. and eating,
grooming and toilet skills implementing the home
following by the parents / family members. Their
attitudes and expectations towards their children.
HEALTH & SCREENING CAMPS:
We have organized screening camps to identify the Special
Children supported by District Medical Board and
S.V.S.Medical Hospital as well as the District Disabled
Welfare Department in our district. And also we are
organized the special health camps in school premises
according to the needs of the Special Children.
PARENTS (PARENTS ASSOCIATION) MEETING: It is regular activity to organize the
parents meetings on twice in academic year. The purpose of these meetings is to consider the
parent as a partner in the part of the rehabilitation of the special child. These meetings
focused as an exchange forum and also helped the parents to know about the activities and
opportunities provided to their child and to agree the abilities and interests of the child. This
year first meeting was held on 23.6.2007, 2nd meeting was held 8.11.2007. In the last
meeting we shared the child progress and given some vacation goals to the parents to review
the activities, which have taken in the academic year.

PARENTS COUNCELLING: We are providing the parents and sibling counseling those
who are having a doubts and conflicts of their children and acceptances of the society. And
also referral services to the parents.

MANAGEMENT & ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETINGS: We are regularly conducting the


management and advisory committee meetings where it is necessary with the smoothly and on
developmental issues running of the institution.

SPECIAL EVENTS :
We are regularly celebrating the National and International Days and Special Occasions in
our school premises. And also we are celebrating the Independence and Republic days,
Children’s Day, Literacy day, Mental health Day, etc.

™ World Disabled Day: We are celebrating the World


Disabled Day on 3rd December, 2007. On this special
occasion we are invite the Madam Chiristina Z.
Chongthu, I.A.S. Joint Collector, Mahabubnagar. Mr.
Sattur Ramulu Goud, Granthalaya Chairman, Mr. Subash,
Sangameshwara Grameena Bank Manager,
Mr. Sudarshan, Assistant Director of Disabled, Mr. Harinath Babu, Andhra Bank
Manager were attended this function. The Joint Collector was appreciated school
services and she advised about children progressive system. She has given assure to help
provision of land to the school purpose. And also the parents of the children and
members of the organization was attend this function.

One of the member has donated Drill Drum set. And Mr.
Krishnaiah, Chartered Accountant was distribute the
dresses to specially poor children.
™ National Mental Health Day (10.10.2007): On this
day Sri Ismail, Senior Civil Judge and their staff
were visited to our Special School. They have
conducted meeting at school campus and they said that about the legal rights for special
children to their parents. The parents should be aware the different acts like Persons with
Disability Act, Rehabilitation Counseling Act (RCI), National Trust Act. In this meeting
Mr. Sudarshan, A.D. of Disabled Welfare; Ms. Rohini, Legal Cell Member and Lions
Club Members Sri Nataraj, Sri Gandhi and Sri Ayyanna were participated in this meeting.

™ National Day for Mental Retardation: Dr. Venkat Ramulu, Dr. Jaya Sree, who is
working as a Dental Doctors came to school and they were, conducted Medical Camp on
the occasion of National Mental Retardation Day.

Glasses distribution: Brahma Kumari Samaj Coordinator Mahadevamma Garu and her team
to visit the school and they had distributed steel glasses to all the Special Children.
Dress distribution: Kum. Charu Sinha, I.P.S. who is Superintendent of Police, Mahabubnagar
had visited the school. She distributed the dresses to our Special Children and she has very
much appreciated to our services. She said that to follow up land for school building.
Sri Muttaiah, C.I. and Mr. Lingaiah, A.S.I. along with their team had visited the school on
account of distributing dresses about 25 children for the purpose of Children’s Day
Celebration.
School bags distribution: Sathya Sai Baba Trust members were donated 10 school bags to
our Special Children on account of Sathya Sai Baba Birth Day.

Dance Programme: On the occasion of 40th Grandhlaya Varotsavalu 20 special children


were participated in the group dance and received awards from Sri Ravindar Reddy,
Granthalaya Chairman, Mahabubnagar.
AWARENESS GENERATION:
Regularly we are organized the seminars, workshops about the Persons With Disabled Acts.
1995, RCI Act and National Trust Act and issues in different places of the district.
And also we are conducting the different competitions to normal education institutions like
colleges, schools about the Disability.

ELOCUTION & ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION:


ON THE TOPIC “STATUS OF THE MENTAL RETARDATION IN THE SOCIETY”
In this competition we had conducted for the normal school students in view of to create
awareness on this issue of “Mental Retardation”. And
also conducted Sports and Games competitions among the
Special School Children in view of “World Disabled
Day”.

Kum. Christina Z. Chongthu, I.A.S. Joint Collector was the Chief


Guest of the function and she distributed the prizes and certificates
to the winner of the above-mentioned competitions.
New Year Celebration: In view of New Year a special invited by
the Superintendant of Police Kum. Charu Sinha to our school
children and staff celebrated this fuction at
her chamber.

Republic Day: On the occasion of Republic Day celebration was held


at our school campus Dr. Ramesh Sarode and Sri Vasulu were visited to
our special school and also interacted with our special children. The
Chief Guest of Dr. Ramesh Sarode, who was hoisted the National Flag.
On that day our children participated in cultural programme at Town
Hall.
INAUGURATION OF MONTESSORI UNIT:
¾ MRK & Group had provided the Montessori Material
followed with Inauguration of this unit at our school
campus and there was meeting organized on this
occasion at our campus.

TENNIS & TENNICOIT:

¾ On the special invitation made by the Tennis &


Tennicoit of Hyderabad to our school children and
staff an Inaugural Function of Tennis and Tennicoit at
Zilla Parishad, Mahabubnagar. And given practice on
“Tennis Play” to our Special Children. And also
organized a “Magic Show” performed by the American
Troop at that function. The children were enjoyed with this Magic Show.

LIST OF VISITORS DURING THE YEAR 2007 – 08

In this academic year the number of visitors visited the institution and giving a moral

support to the team. Hon’ble Ministers, State Commissioners, State Inspector General of

Police, District Collector and Joint Collector & Superintendant of Police and other District

officials, Elective Representatives and Well-wishers of the organization.

He blessed the Special Children and to appreciate the organizer Chairman and team.

¾ Mrs. Anitha Rajendran, State Commissioner for Disabled Welfare & Senior

Citizens, Govt. of A.P. Hyderabad.

My visit to this Institute was totally unexpected one. But if brought about lot of happiness

for to see that there are people in this world to take care of such children. I wish the

principal good luck in his endeavor & wish that the Institute would try and make everyone

sustainable to continue to live in this world.

In the occasion of World Disabled Day, I have had the opportunity of visiting the

ECO-CLUB school for the Mentally Challenged and it has been a wonderful touching

experience. I am impressed with the commitment and patience of the staff as they teach and

care for the most challenged within a friendly & caring home environment. I wish all

future success and blessings to this ECO-CLUB and hope that the Mentally Challenged

shall grow and develop from this centre & contribute as member of society.

I felt wonder by observing the mode of teaching to the disabled boys and girls. The work of

principal is really appreciated. I pray the god to give all sorts of blessing to the students of

this Institution to recover from their to be a good members of society.

Social Welfare, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh on 15th August, 2007
™ Best organization award received from Smt. Usharani, IAS, District Collector &
Magistrate, Mahabubnagar on Republic Day Celebrations.
™ Best cultural performance award received from Chairman, Zilla Granthalaya
Samsta and District Collector on 14th November, 2006.
