INTRODUCTION
The Global Green Growth Institute is looking to hire an Urban Systems Analyst in a fixed-term consulting role to
support their project work in India.
GGGI is dedicated to supporting developing and emerging countries to meet their own development and growth
objectives by exploring and implementing green growth plans that simultaneously target key economic and
environmental objectives. These include poverty reduction, job creation and social inclusion as well as mitigation
and adaptation to climate change, biodiversity loss and energy and water security. GGGI was founded as a nonprofit organisation in June 2010 and is currently being converted to an intergovernmental organisation.
GGGIs theory of change leads it to focus on three major outcomes: adoption and implementation of rigorous
green growth plans that form the core of national and provincial economic development strategies; research
which builds a strong theoretical and empirical basis for green growth, while providing concrete options and
guidance for policymakers; and public-private partnerships that strengthen incentives for the scaling of
resource-efficient investment, innovation and practice as well as for the engagement of companies in the
implementation of national and subnational green growth plans.
Working with programme managers, GGGIs project partners, and other consultants, the analyst will be
responsible for conducting detailed analysis of urban systems, urban infrastructure, and urban technologies;
and then designing and communicating policy and program interventions for cities to chart new green growth
pathways in their development. The role will include working with partner institutes on technical analysis,
conducting research on national and international best practices, and engaging in high quality relationships with
leaders in partner cities. This role will also contribute to building the foundation of GGGIs urban program in
India.
JOB DESCRIPTION

Perform project management, team management, and task management for urban green growth
projects. Including management of other staff and partner organizations
Establish and maintain quality relationships with government officials from partner cities, as well as
with GGGIs research partners (to ensure responsive client service and to enhance new business
opportunities)
Conduct research related to urban and green growth best practices, urban solutions, and economic
and financial models.
Perform technical analysis, assimilate and synthesize results, and design relevant and actionable
policies/programs
o Analyzing and appraising all aspects of urban green growth planning and preparing
recommendations as part of project delivery
o Assimilating findings and recommendations from different urban sectors into balanced and
prioritized roadmaps for green growth implementation
o Financial analysis; strategic roadmaps for cities; project prioritization; implementation; etc
o Design public sector interventions and Public Private Partnerships (PPP) for urban green
growth
Conduct review and quality monitoring of project outputs

Conduct facilitation workshops/events with city and government stakeholders.


Communicate effectively with internal/external parties
o Prepare documentation for GGGI internal processes
o Prepare project-related documents for internal and external audiences
Travel -- up to 25-50% of time
Foster teamwork and knowledge sharing with colleagues in the region and with other GGGI offices

QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must hold exemplary and relevant academic credentials. Applicants should have postgraduate degrees with specialization in economics, engineering, planning, architecture,
environmental science, or other relevant discipline.
Applicants must have at least 4-7 years of relevant professional experience in areas such as urban
planning, architecture, engineering, sustainability consulting, and/or city management; with a major
firm, consulting company, municipal government, or research institute.
Applicants must have urban-focused specialization and experience
o Direct experience in urban/city related projects and/or research
o Good familiarity with context and issues facing cities and urbanization in India (especially
from the perspective of city leaders and policy-makers)
o Good familiarity with state-of-art urban solutions and best practices (infrastructure,
technologies, policies, plans, and programs for green, low-carbon, and/or sustainable cities)
Applicants must have technical and analytical experience, with strong evidence of delivering results in
one or more of the following areas:
o Urban planning, infrastructure development, technology
o City management, urban governance
o Urban financial analysis and investment planning
o Urban policy analysis, design, and/or monitoring
Applicants should have experience integrating analysis across multiple urban sectors and disciplines
Professional Skills
Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills; along with strong synthesis, integration, and strategic
thinking skills; all in the areas of expertise relevant to GGGI, especially planning, engineering,
economics, finance, policy, strategy, and urban management.
Research skills, including online and desk research, data collection and management, interviews
Facilitation skills (workshops, trainings, small group projects, negotiations, etc)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills (fluent and articulate in English is essential; local
language skills a plus)
Excellent presentation skills
Adept at project and team management (task and time management, budgeting, delegation, quality
control and review, etc.)
Relevant computer skills (office software and internet proficiencies required; other computer skills a
plus GIS, CAD software, engineering models, environmental models, economic models, financial
models, etc.)
Other Requirements
Strong candidates will have extensive networks in the Indian urban/environment/policy sphere
Candidates must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and experience
Candidates must demonstrate initiative-taking; and comfort with new ideas and innovation
Candidates must have strong interpersonal skills, and ability to interact directly and independently
with policy makers, research/technical partners and private sector
Candidates must demonstrate teamwork skills
