1st step: Assessment by independent experts

EUREKA Secretariat 2014

2015

1st step: Assessment by independent experts

> For each sub criteria experts must provide a score out of six.
> The rounded average of the sub criteria scores is used as the score for the
main criteria.
> Experts are said to be in agreement when their scores fall on the same side
of the mid-point of the scale.
> If there is an outlying score (an expert scores the other side of the mid-point
compared to the other two) that score is disregarded and not used in
calculating the average value.
> A threshold for progression to the panel evaluation where for at least two
major criteria, the average of the experts scores is 4.3* or greater, where
there is agreement for the criteria in question.

Funding of project applications

Only projects rated above the quality thresholds are
recommended for funding

The funding of projects is following the ranking list until

national budget exhaustion

The funding of partners is based on the national funding rules

New manufacturing technologies and materials

to increase the cost-efficiency of hot stamping

> Countries: South Korea, Spain

> Total cost: 1,9 million

About the project

The Market

The Technology

Four out of five partners in this

project are research
organisations based in Korea
and span both the public and
private sectors. They have
teamed together with a
Spanish partner, which core
business is in advanced tools
for the material forming
industry, with a particular focus
on steels and special alloys.

Hot stamping is a hot topic for

the steel industry: it allows to
design car bodies while saving
on weight and improving
safety. A well developed
European automotive market is
in demand for this new
technology, while recent
forecasts see an increase of
steel consumption in China up
to 22 million tonnes in 2018.

Modern hot stamping enables

car manufacturers to form
relatively complex parts in
single step die, a method more
efficient than most other
stamping solutions. To achieve
this in a cost-efficient way is
the objective of the project
partners.

> Total cost: 2,6 million

About the project

The Market

The Impact

This international project is led

by a small Korean company,
coordinating a group counting
other small to mid-sized
companies from Denmark,
Spain, Sweden and Turkey and
prestigious Korean Institutional
and Academic partners.
Through their combined
capacities they plan to
revolutionize photovoltaics.

By collaborating together, the

partners can access market
which would have been
otherwise difficult to seize.

The solar cells to be developed

during the project is expected
to become one of the most
efficient third-generation solar
technology available.

EUREKA Secretariat 2015

According to forecasts, solar

panels representing up to
50,000 MW will be installed in
Europe until 2018. Asia now
also represents a high
proportion of the worlds
photovoltaic market (56%) and
is growing fast.
