Acting Up
Occasions may arise where it is necessary to formally ask one or more
members of staff to act up into a higher graded position, in whole or in
part eg. to cover sickness absence, maternity leave etc.
In most circumstances eg known long term sickness, maternity leave and
extended periods of special leave, acting up arrangements can be planned
well in advance and, therefore, payment will ordinarily be from the first
day on which the pre-arranged acting up period begins. In these
circumstances the following principles and expectations shall apply:
The arrangements, including the period involved and the date from
which the arrangements effectively took place, should be agreed in
detail between the employee and manager, in consultation with the
HR department and confirmed in writing
