Webpage
Description: A webpage to display my personally designed logo
Programs: Text Wrangler, Adobe Photoshop
Date: June 27, 2015
Course: COMM 130 Visual Media
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: To learn to navigate through CSS and HTML and to create my
own webpage.
Process: I used Text Wrangler to connect a CSS document with an HTML
document and to edit the code for the web page text and colors. I used
Adobe Photoshop to add the color hex numbers; I used the eye dropper
tool to sample the color on my logo. I moved the color selector around to
find the other tones and shades of red. Then I copied the hex colors from
Photoshop and pasted them into the CSS document. I used
http://www.w3schools.com to know which fonts are web safe; I typed
the font names and some backup font names into the CSS document.
It was interesting to experiment with centering the logo. It was truly a
trial and error process. During a lot of editing, saving and web page
refreshing, I learned what pieces of the web page most of the CSS
code affects.

Business Card
Description: Matching business card and stationery with a personally
designed logo.
Programs: Adobe InDesign
Date: June 13, 2015
Course: COMM 130 Visual Media
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Create a logo to fit a company or brand. Design consistent,
connected layouts for a business card and letterhead.
Process: I knew in my head what layout I wanted to make, so I took that
mental picture and created it in Adobe InDesign. In my first draft, the shape
of the card was the same rhombus as the logo, but I decided it was too
abstract for the business. I decided to have the word Photography shadow to
add more originality and visual interest. I decided to right justify the text and
objects to enhance the flow the logo creates.

Letterhead
Description: Matching business card and stationery with a personally
designed logo.
Programs: Adobe InDesign
Date: June 13, 2015
Course: COMM 130 Visual Media
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Create a logo to fit a company or brand. Design consistent,
connected layouts for a business card and letterhead.
Process: To go along with the business card, I right justified the text
and objects. I placed the watermark on the left side to add variety.
I kept the colors very light to allow for an easy read when there is text
on the paper.

Event Flier
Description: A full-page bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser
Programs: Microsoft Word and an Epson scanner
Date: May 16, 2015
Course: COMM 130 Visual Media
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Announce a fundraiser for homeless people in a visually moving way.
Process: I found the photo of the woman and man in a National Geographic
magazine then I scanned it into the computer. I placed the image in Microsoft
Word then added objects and text around it. I decided to make the fundraiser
for homeless people because there are many people in the United States and
in the world who are homeless or in need of basic necessities.

Brochure
Description: A two-sided trifold brochure for a professional business
Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop
Date: July 12, 2015
Course: COMM 130 Visual Media
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Design an original brochure to appeal to an intended audience
and to inform them of why they should be interested in the business.
Process: I began with three different paper drafts to figure out where to place
each text box and each image. I decided to do the trifold because I think it has
more of a professional feel than my other drafts. I created the bicycle logo
because my client uses that bicycle as an analogy in his therapy sessions.
I rounded the edges of each image to go along with the feeling of peace,
comfort, and healing that is connected with the business. The wavy lines
throughout the brochure also add to that feeling, as does the silhouette
on the front page. I use paragraph styles for all of the text.

Logos
Description: An original logo in three different styles - color, greyscale and white
on a colored background.
Programs: Adobe Illustrator
Date: June 6, 2015
Course: COMM 130 Visual Media
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Create a unique and original logo for a business.
Process: I sketched about forty different logos, most similar to each other. I chose
the three I liked best and created them in Illustrator. After critique, I focused on
developing one logo to make it its best. I used the initial S from the business name
SickPig as a guide to create the pig head. I thought of the most prominent features
of a pig and included them in the design. I omitted the pigs eyes and mouth for
simplicitys sake. I added the thermometer to enhance the business focus on
Get Well Soon greeting cards.

Imaging
Description: A full-page bleed design, incorporating an original photo and a color
scheme to demonstrate good photography and image editing.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign
Date: May 24, 2015
Course: COMM 130 Visual Media
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Create a flier to relieve my summer fever and to visually trigger
summer fever in an audience.
Process: I used my DSLR Canon Rebel SL1 to capture the photo. I laid out the
objects on my bed, next to the window to allow for good lighting. I placed the
image in InDesign and added a lot of layers and masks to add the title and the
flowers. The flowers are all copied from the swimsuit using the lasso selection tool.
I added a mask of color over each flower to enhance the color scheme found on
the swimsuit.

Montage
Description: A full-page bleed montage design with a broad spiritual theme.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign
Date: May 30, 2015
Course: COMM 130 Visual Media
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Connect with an audience that experiences self-doubt, depression
and overall sadness. Inspire the audience to continue hoping for a better life.
Process: I searched through Google for photos labeled for reuse and modification.
I placed the photo of the woman and the photo of the cobbweb in InDesign on
different layers. I added the Inner Glow filter then brushed away some of it around
the womans eyes to show there is still hope inside of her.

Flier
Description: Black and white flier to promote a graduate leadeship conference
Programs: Adobe InDesign
Date: May 18, 2015
Course: COMM 130 Visual Media
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Create a visually appealing flier to attract an audience of innovative
people who have unique ideas.
Process: I created multiple sketches of possible layouts. I chose one of the most
pleasing layouts and developed it in Adobe InDesign. I made Leadership the
focal point by making it the largest and darkest text. I created a three-step
hierarchy that flows from Leadership to the date-time-place to the details of the
conference. I used the grey, diagonal boxes to help emphasize the importance of
the information nearest them. The grey boxes, the logo and the words Graduate
and Conference are unified because they are the same tone of grey. I left white
space for simplicity, and I kept the body copy small. The photo, logo and text were
all provided for me.
