Soggy Watermelon Fields

marketnotes

Typically, we enjoy bargain basement prices on sweet

and juicy watermelons, this time of year. Not the case
this summer, as massive amounts of rain up and down
the East Coast have kept prices higher than normal.

Weather Impact: Continued high heat,
thunderstorms, and humidity have produced
conditions which are not good for produce. The
relentless rain from New Jersey to Virginia is causing
waterlogged vegetables. In spite of that, we are
finding some bright spots.
Local Cheeses: Now at Keany from Mountain View
Farms in VA. Try the local Colby, Gouda, Baby Swiss,
or Cheddar. If you cant decide, try our 10 lb sampler
wheel of all four! Theyre all delicious.
Blackberries: Very large sweet berries coming from
Cole Berry Farm and Westmoreland.
Blueberries: Full pints winding down from New
Jersey, but still large, sweet and fresh!
Peaches, donut peaches: Peak local season!
