Utilized the nursing process to care for children of all ages and young adults with a wide variety of medical
problems both acute and chronic including Endocrine, Infectious Disease, Gastroenterology, Pulmonary,
Immunology, Psychiatric and occasionally Rheumatology. All clinical care practiced proactively and intuitively.
Worked with multicultural population including those from the Middle East seeking treatment in the United
States. Responsibilities included precepting new graduate nurses, student nurses, charge role, as well as being
a positive role model and resource for other staff. Included in being a resource was to teach families how to
care for their children if they need special care for discharge. Also included is assisting in unit change by
attending leadership meetings and quality improvement and identifying and aiding in areas of unit growth.
Collaborated with PACT (Pediatric Advanced Care Team), Complementary Modalities, Social Services, Child
Life, Patient Care Coordination and Chaplancy to aid in expert care of patients and families. Cared for dying
patients without making judgements on families choices. Coordinated the start of a hospice room on the floor
and sought out donations of books, quilts and teddy bears from a variety of sources to ensure this special room
looked less like a hospital room.

Utilized the nursing process in caring for a variety of surgical patients of all ages. Gained knowledge of postoperative nursing and aided in developing pre and post-op care plans. Managed care for procedures including
bladder augmentation, nephrectomies, hypospadious, ureteral reimplants, splenectomies, colostomies, pectus
repair, tonsillectomies, and liver and kidney transplantation. Involved in strong primary nursing program, which
incorporated the development of care plans, as well as participating in interdisciplinary meetings to facilitate the
care of the transplanted patient.
