NKTI CELEBRATES JUNE 2015 AS NATIONAL KIDNEY MONTH
June of every year is celebrated as National Kidney Month by virtue of Proclamation No.
184 dated May 31, 1993. For 2015, NKTI celebrates its 22 nd anniversary in cooperation with
the Philippine Society of Nephrology (PSN) and the Philippine Urological Association (PUA) with
the theme Batong Inaalagaan, Habambuhay Nating Kayamanan. The Renal Disease Control
Program (REDCOP) coordinates with the different regional offices of the Department of Health
(DOH) for the nationwide activities.
NKTI continues to be the countrys premier government institution for the prevention
and treatment of kidney and other kidney related illnesses urology, vascular and end-stage
organ diseases. Through the years, NKTI has maintained a holistic and integrated renal care
program starting with promotion, prevention, diagnosis and treatment up to follow-up care
through research, training, advocacy and quality assurance. At NKTI, those needing renal
replacement therapy can avail of the best hemodialysis technology in the country. Moreover,
the NKTIs Diagnostic Center houses the most advanced amenities and equipment, firsts in
the Philippines and in Asia, like the 256-Slice CT Scan, 3.0 Tesla MRI, DXA Bone Densitometer,
state-of-the-art Radiography and Fluoroscopy, Cathlab biplane imaging system and C-arm
machine for cardiac catheterization. Indeed, NKTI strongly holds in its commitment of
Keeping the Nation Healthy Through Expertise and Technology.
For the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals and in adherence to the
Department of Healths thrust of Kalusugan Pangkalahatan or Universal Healthcare for
all Filipinos, NKTI adds up its Center for Urology and Mens Health to intensify urology
specialty health services not only for men but also for women.
Improvement of facilities and expansion of services never stop at NKTI to give the best
service to the Filipinos such as the Radiotherapy, Molecular and Cellular Therapeutics. Latest
expansion is the Operating Room Complex which showcases the Integrated Operating Room
which is optimally designed for performing minimally invasive and conventional surgeries. The
systems modular design allows all components and functionalities to be integrated in the
operating room. It simplified work process by means of intuitive device control directly in the
sterile area. Centralized control via single touch screen OR lights with high definition (HD)
camera, fully motorized OR table, full HD laparoscopic equipment, HD documentation, HD
room camera, video routing, video conferencing, Patient monitor/MRI/CT-Scan/ultrasound
integration and video image telestration for teaching purposes. Customized to meet
disciplinary and interdisciplinary needs, the Operating Room concept offers the optimal
solution to each requirement for an integrated OR workstation design that sets new standards
in ergonomics, safety, and efficiency which is considered the first in the Philippines.
Through Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the PET-CT unit has been opened to operate in
February this year. Truly, one can say that NKTI is deeply committed to excellent healthcare,
