findoutmore.Perhapsmoresocialscientistswillhavetobecomeactivelisteners,
talkingmoreoftentothepublic,eachotherandtoscientists.Thenwecangetallthe
disciplinesaroundthetabletogether.Inaknowledgebasedworld,weneedpeople
whocanintegrateavarietyofdifferenttypesofknowledge,andthatcomefrom
differentintellectualrootsandfromarangeofinstitutionstoworktogether.
7 Socialsciencecanimproveourchildrenslivesandeducation.Allsocietiesandall
governmentswanttoshowtheyaredongthebestforchildren.Yettoooften
educationreformseemstotakeplacewithoutregardforthebestinterestsofthe

socialandeconomicadvancementofhumanityatlarge.Theyworkwithgovernment
institutions,UNorganisations,socialservices,fundingagencies,andwiththemedia.

Theyareinfluencingtheworkofstrategists,planners,teachersandprogramme
officersindevelopingandgrowingeconomies,likeIndia,toinfluencedevelopmentso
thatitimpactsonthelivesofthepoorestmembersofsociety.Forexample,social
scientistsfromtheDelhiSchoolofEconomicsarecooperatingwithcolleaguesat

minimumwagesforruralunskilledmanuallabourersonthelovesofwomen.They
