Chapter1
Introduction

Background and Significance of the Business

While computers are now an important part of the lives of human beings, there
was a time where computers did not exist. Knowing the history of computers and how
much progression has been made can help you understand just how complicated and
innovative the creation of computers really.
The computer is one of the few inventions that do not have one specific
inventor. Throughout the development of the computer, many people have added their
creations to the list required to make a computer work. Some of the inventions have
been different types of computers, and some of them were parts required to allow
computers to be developed further.
It was in this year that the first "computer" was developed. This computer
stands as the first as it was the first system to be fully programmable. There were
devices prior to this, but none had the computing power that sets it apart from other
electronics.
It wasn't until 1942 that any business saw profit and opportunity in computers.
This first company was called ABC computers, owned and operated by John
Atanasoff and Clifford Berry. The age of computers was forever altered by the
introduction of International Business Machines, or IBM, into the computing industry
in 1953. This company, over the course of computer history, has been a major player
in the development of new systems and servers for public and private use. This
introduction brought about the first real signs of competition within computing
history, which helped to spur faster and better development of computers.

A year later, the first successful high level programming language was created.
This was a programming language not written in 'assembly' or binary, which are
considered very low level languages. The year 1955, the Bank of America, coupled
with Stanford Research Institute and General Electric, saw the creation of the first
computers for use in banks. It wasn't until 1959 that the pair of systems was put into
use in actual banks.
During 1958, one of the most important breakthroughs in computer history
occurred, the creation of the integrated circuit. This device, also known as the chip, is
one of the base requirements for modern computer systems. On every motherboard
and card within a computer system, are many chips that contain information on what
the boards and cards do. Without these chips, the systems as we know them today
cannot function.
One of the most important aspects of computers today was invented in 1969.
ARPA net was the original Internet, which provided the foundation for the Internet
that we know today. This development would result in the evolution of knowledge
and business across the entire planet.
It wasn't until 1970 that Intel entered the scene with the first dynamic RAM
chip, which resulted in an explosion of computer science innovation.
On the heels of the RAM chip was the first microprocessor, which was also
designed by Intel. These two components, in addition to the chip developed in 1958,
would number among the core components of modern computers.
A year later, the floppy disk was created, gaining its name from the flexibility
of the storage unit. This was the first step in allowing most people to transfer bits of
data between unconnected computers.
The first networking card was created in 1973, allowing data transfer between
connected computers. This is similar to the Internet, but allows for the computers to
connect without use of the Internet.
This is when companies began to develop systems for the average consumer.
While expensive, these machines started the trend for computers within common
households. One of the most major breakthroughs’ in computer software occurred in
1978 with the release of the VisiCalc Spreadsheet program. All development costs
were paid for within a two week period of time, which makes this one of the most

http://www.word-to-pdf.abdio.com/Big Boss Computer
successful programs in computer history.
The most important years for the home computer user, this is the year that
WordStar in 1979, the first word processing program, was released to the public for
sale. This drastically altered the usefulness of computers for the everyday user.
The IBM Home computer quickly helped revolutionize the consumer market
in 1981, as it was affordable for home owners and standard consumers. 1981 also saw
the mega-giant Microsoft enter the scene with the MS-DOS operating system. This
operating system utterly changed computing forever, as it was easy enough for
everyone to learn.
Now a day, we can called the Cyber Ear because everything is now on the
internet worldwide and we can contact all people around the world by click and
searching on internet. Internet is the important way to communication in the world so
the computer software and computer hardware are the supporting equipments that
reach to the cyber world. We choose to do the Computer hardware and software shop
because we want to be the one who are supporting the customer that has high demand
of computer software and hardware. The university student has high demand to get a
new computer and support it to be high quality. The computer PC or Notebook are
very popular for them and they also need the better program of software to support
their computer.

Chapter2
Industry Profile

Nature of Industry
The history of computers starts out about 2000 years ago, at the birth of the
abacus, a wooden rack holding two horizontal wires with beads strung on them. When
these beads are moved around, according to programming rules memorized by the
user, all regular arithmetic problems can be done. Another important invention around
the same time was the Astrolabe, used for navigation. Blaise Pascal is usually credited
for building the first digital computer in 1642. It added numbers entered with dials
and was made to help his father, a tax collector. In 1671, Gottfried Wilhelm von
Leibniz invented a computer that was built in 1694. It could add, and, after changing

( Word to PDF - Unregistered )

http://www.word-to-pdf.abdio.com/Big Boss Computer
some things around, multiply. Leibniz invented a special stepped gear mechanism for
introducing the addend digits, and this is still being used. The prototypes made by
Pascal and Leibniz were not used in many places, and considered weird until a little
more than a century later, when Thomas of Colmar created the first successful
mechanical calculator that could add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
As compared to today’s machines, these computers were slow, usually processing
50 – 220 cards per minute, each card holding about 80 decimal numbers. At the time,
however, punched cards were a huge step forward. They provided a means of I/O, and
memory storage on a huge scale. For more than 50 years after their first use, punched
card machines did most of the world’s first business computing, and a considerable
amount of the computing work in science.
The all purpose computer memory became the assembly place in which all
parts of a long computation were kept, worked on piece by piece, and put together to
form the final results. The computer control survived only as an “errand runner” for
the overall process. As soon as the advantage of these techniques became clear, they
became a standard practice.
The first generation of modern programmed electronic computers to take
advantage of these improvements was built in 1947. This group included computers
using Random Access Memory, which is a memory designed to give almost constant
access to any particular piece of information.
Early in the 50’s two important engineering discoveries changed the image of
the electronic computer field, from one of fast but unreliable hardware to an image of
relatively high reliability and even more capability. These discoveries were the
magnetic core memory and the Transistor Circuit Element. These technical
discoveries quickly found their way into new models of digital computers. So that,
computers were mostly found in large computer centers operated by industry,
government, and private laboratories staffed with many programmers and support
personnel.
This situation led to modes of operation enabling the sharing of the high
potential available. One such mode is batch processing, in which problems are
prepared and then held ready for computation on a relatively cheap storage medium.
Magnetic drums, magnetic – disk packs, or magnetic tapes were usually used. When

( Word to PDF - Unregistered )

http://www.word-to-pdf.abdio.com/Big Boss Computer
the computer finishes with a problem, it “dumps” the whole problem on one of these
peripheral storage units and starts on a new problem. Another mode for fast, powerful
machines is called time-sharing. In time-sharing, the computer processes many jobs in
such rapid succession that each job runs as if the other jobs did not exist, thus keeping
each “customer” satisfied. Such operating modes need elaborate executable programs
to attend to the administration of the various tasks.
In the 1950s it was realized that “scaling down” the size of electronic digital
computer circuits and parts would increase speed and efficiency and by that, improve
performance, if they could only find a way to do this. About 1960 photo printing of
conductive circuit boards to eliminate wiring became more developed. Then it became
possible to build resistors and capacitors into the circuitry by the same process. In the
1970’s, vacuum deposition of transistors became the norm, and entire assemblies,
with adders, shifting registers, and counters, became available on tiny “chips”.
In the 1960’s, the problems in programming applications were an obstacle to
the independence of medium sized on-site computers, but gains in applications
programming language technologies removed these obstacles. Applications languages
were now available for controlling a great range of manufacturing processes, for using
machine tools with computers, and for many other things. Moreover, a new revolution
in computer hardware was under way, involving shrinking of computer-logic circuitry
and of components by what are called large-scale integration.
The trend during the 1970’s was, to some extent, moving away from very
powerful, single purpose computers and toward a larger range of applications for
cheaper computer systems. Most continuous-process manufacturing, such as
petroleum refining and electrical-power distribution systems, now used computers of
smaller capability for controlling and regulating their jobs.
In the 1980’s, very large scale integration, in which hundreds of thousands of
transistors were placed on a single chip, became more and more common. Many
companies, some new to the computer field, introduced in the 1970’s programmable
minicomputers supplied with software packages. The “shrinking” trend continued
with the introduction of personal computers which are programmable machines small
enough and inexpensive enough to be purchased and used by individuals. Many
companies, such as Apple Computer and Radio Shack, introduced very successful

http://www.word-to-pdf.abdio.com/Big Boss Computer
PC’s in the 1970's, encouraged in part by a fad in computer games. In the 1980s some
friction occurred in the crowded PC field, with Apple and IBM keeping strong. In the
manufacturing of semiconductor chips, the Intel and Motorola Corporations were very
competitive into the 1980’s, although Japanese firms were making strong economic
advances, especially in the area of memory chips.
Progress in the area of software has not matched the great advances in
hardware. Software has become the major cost of many systems because
programming productivity has not increased very quickly. New programming
techniques, such as object-oriented programming, have been developed to help relieve
this problem. Despite difficulties with software, however, the cost per calculation of
computers is rapidly lessening, and their convenience and efficiency are expected to
increase in the early future. The computer field continues to experience huge growth.
Computer networking, computer mail, and electronic publishing are just a few of the
applications that have grown in recent years. Advances in technologies continue to
produce cheaper and more powerful computers offering the promise that in the near
future, computers or terminals will reside in most, if not all homes, offices, and
schools.

Situation of Industry
Today, computers are important for many people, because it can be used for work,
find information and much more. Therefore, number of computer stores to increase
for respond demand of customer and make markets more competitive. And in front of
market of University that is not very high because the stores are low and not able to
attract customers plus with market in front of University continues to grow every
year due to demand for notebook computers and many current customers are buying
high .And today most customers require use Laptop to increase due can carry easily
and connect to wireless internet of University too.
Competitors of our competitors have five stores is located in front of the
University is four place and one place is in a University. There are repair computer
services and advising for person that has problem about computer and variety of
devices for computer such as Camera cam, Mouse, PC, Mini notebook and etc.
Although sometimes purchasing computer to decreased, but still has putting Windows
XP or other program on computer and repairing computer again and again.
The computer Shop in a present, it as a general shops that the customer will
come to buy a product, or order the product and the normally services of a computer
shops are to fix and repair the hardware of computer, install and update the new
program or software of computer. But the most important thing is “SERVICE” and

( Word to PDF - Unregistered )

“HONESTY” we have differentiation in the service section faster, safety, cheaper, and
trustable and use pricing leadership and the appropriated location. Now a day, there
are many computer shops, if the poor of service and location although the quality and
the price can be comparative but the customer will choose the computer shops that
provide good service first.

Product / Service
Computer is an electronic machine. It’s build to work instead of human. Data
memory and can be calculated. Both numbers and letters have to run the next time.
Also handles symbols with high speed by step by steps of the program. The computer
has several unique features. Been made to use everyday life in society is significant.
That is found most often. Used in printing documents such as reports, documents, type
letter that called the process. In addition, computer applications in many different
areas;
1. In Business Shop, Mall as well as factories. Use Computer in processing,
accounting work and contact with external agencies through
telecommunications systems. The industry most used computers to help in
controlling production and assembly of devices.
2. Medical Sciences and Health - Can be used in computers used in the
calculations rather complex. Such as the chemical studies, the way she's
sending the rocket into space or devices for monitoring treatment.
3. Transport and communications work - with respect to travel. Will use the
computer to reserve a seat on time. Ease of travel to not lose time waiting. It is
also used to control traffic. Communications systems are clear.
4. Engineering and architecture - Architects and engineers can use computers to
design or simulate various conditions. The computer calculates and displays
the situation near the truth. As well as control and monitor the progress of
projects.
5. The government - A unit with most computers. The use of multiple formats.
Such as the Ministry of Education. The system through computer
conferencing, Ministry of Science and Technology. Has organized a network

to connect to the Internet institutions, held in the Department of Revenue tax
collection. Save tax, etc..
6. Education - Including the use of computers in teaching. A computer
application to help in the form of teaching lessons or CAI work up. This
allows easy access to search students. Storage and returning borrowed library
books.
From the above, even though computers are very useful. But some people use
the computer to the abuse such as theft, pornography, illicit or even trade piracy.
Therefore, we must use the computer carefully. Taking into account the effects will
follow.

department, not just a vendor. Make them understand the value of the relationship.

Focus on target markets. We need to focus our offerings on small business as

the key market segment we should own. As a corollary, the high end of the home
office market is also appropriate. We do not want to compete for the buyers who go to
the chain stores or mail order, but we definitely want to be able to sell individual

Marketing Mix Analysis

Product strategy: Four type of product for sale;

1. Hardware – CPU, Monitor, Hard disk, Ram.

( Word to PDF - Unregistered )

http://www.word-to-pdf.abdio.com/Big Boss Computer
2. Repair – Program computer, Microsoft Window.
3. Accessories- Mouse, Keyboard, loudspeaker.
4. Notebook – ACER, DELL, HP COMPAQ and SONY VIO.

My shop sell product in retail and wholesale. We didn’t produce the product. But
we are an agent. Customers order the product and then w will contact to Brand that
sell the product. All of products in my shop already have a guarantee. We have a
repair service because we order spares to keep in my shop.

Pricing Strategy:

Must charge appropriately for the high-end, high-quality service and support
we offer. Our revenue structure has to match our cost structure, so the salaries pay to
assure good service and support must be balanced by the revenue charge. Cannot
build the service and support revenue into the price of products. The market can't bear
the higher prices and the buyer feels ill-used when customers see the same product
priced lower at the chains. Despite the logic behind this, the market doesn't support
this concept. Therefore, must make sure that deliver and charge for service and
support. Training, service, installation, networking support all of this must be readily
available and priced to sell and deliver revenue.

Distribution Strategy:

Small Business buyers are accustomed to buying from vendors who visit their
offices. They expect the copy machine vendors, office products vendors, and office
furniture vendors, as well as the local graphic artists, freelance writers, or whomever,
to visit their office to make their sales. There is usually a lot of leakage in purchasing
through local chain stores and mail order. Often the administrators try to discourage
this, but are only partially successful. Unfortunately our target buyers may not expect
to buy from us. Many of them turn immediately to the superstores such as office
equipment, office supplies, and electronics and mail order to look for the best price,

( Word to PDF - Unregistered )

http://www.word-to-pdf.abdio.com/Big Boss Computer
without realizing that there is a better option for them at only a little bit more.

Promotion Strategy:

Depend on brochure as our main way to reach new buyers. As we change

strategies, however, we need to change the way we promote ourselves:

1. Sales Brochure our collaterals have to sell the store, and visiting the store, not
the specific book or discount pricing.

2. Must radically improve our direct mail efforts, reaching our established
customers with training, support services, upgrades, and seminars.

3. It's time to work more closely with the local media. Could offer the local pubic
relation about Big Boss computer shop.

Our target companies are large enough to need the high-quality information
technology management we offer, but too small to have a separate computer
management staff. Our company is even more difficult. We generally know the
characteristics of our target market. It generates enough money to merit the owner's
paying real attention to the quality of information technology management, meaning
that there is both budget and concerns that warrant working with our level of quality
service and support.
