CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION
BACKROUND OF THE STUDY
Palawan is known as the Last Ecological Frontier of the Philippines, a
distinction honored upon the province because of its unique ecological balance
that has been preserved amid the rapid changes and economic growth.
In the new millennium the sustainable development of Palawans terrestrial and
marine resources serve as the main strategy of the provinces economical
development. There is a great potential for agriculture in the province, with its
vast terrestrial and marine resources, the province has now become one of the
centers for food production in the country. Prospects for bright investment are:
vegetable production, processed foods, seafood, crops such as cashew, coconut,
rice, mangoes and bananas, and livestock products like pig, swine, goat and
chicken are considered to be a framework for the benefit of the present and
future Palaweos.
Palawan probably harbors a vast mainland territory with 45 percent of its
farmland remaining uncultivated, and a huge expanse of marine wilderness
teeming with aquatic animals and different variety of seaweeds,
Though agriculture forms the backbone of the province, the urgent call for an
institution that will help to boost the key priority areas of agriculture namely;
production and facilitation, alternative livelihood and training, health and nutrition,

and management. In this regard the proposed Center for Agriculture Research
and Training Institute in Palawan was conceptualized.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM


The study tries to find solutions on how to boost the agricultural sector of
Palawan and how to maintain its role as one of the centers for food production in
the country.

Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:


1. What will be the benefits of the study to the following:
a. Agricultural sector of the province.
b. The Provincial Government.
c. Local farmers and fishers.
d. Educational sector of the province
e. Farm owners and livestock growers; and
f. The Palaweos.

2. What are the specializations of the Proposed Centre for Agriculture? As a

a. Centre for Education/Training


b. Research Institute

3. Architecturally, what are the requirements in planning the Proposed


Centre? In terms of:
a. Space/ area requirements.
b. Facilitation/ utilities; and.
c. Other supporting facility.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY


The study would be able to provide the local government in general, a technical
learning and assistance in integrated crop production, integrated fishery
development, livestock production, and other institutional support like in the field
of research in finding new technologies and innovations in agriculture
production, facilitation, alternative livelihood and training through this project.
Likewise, the study would benefit farmers/ growers by providing them technical
assistance and training through people-based resource management, providing
conducive agricultural structure for local and potential farmers; facilities and
proper agricultural techniques training that will improve their yield. Moreover the
study would do well in boosting the economic development of Palawan.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The scope of this study of the problems to be rendered and wishes to achieve
deals with the designing of the proposed project, which is aptly called "Centre for
Agriculture Research and Training Institute as a Governmental Institution,
and Educational as well, for ensuring the sustainability and stability of the
agricultural aspects of the Province.
The study will only focus on the architectural aspects of the proposed project and
will not definitely include intensive structural and/or mechanical aspects of the
proposed project.
Furthermore, since the proposed project requires an in depth analization, this
would utilize the researcher made questionnaire that would be provided to
acquire informations which will be very much helpful for the proper execution of
this study of the proposed project.
