Function of catalysts
As mentioned two types of catalyst
systems, oxidation and three-way, are
found in automotive applications.
Oxidation catalysts remove only CO and
HC, leaving NOx unchanged. Platinum and
palladium are generally used as the active
metals in oxidation catalysts. Three-way
catalysts are capable of removing all three
pollutants simultaneously, provided that the
catalyst is maintained in a “chemically

Author’s information:
Project description: Protein folding, the process by which a protein assumes its three-dimensional
shape, is one of the basic unsolved problems of biophysical research. Many of the structural changes
taking place during protein folding, especially during the early stages, are as yet poorly understood. In
this research project, time-resolved vibrational spectroscopy will be used to study protein folding. We will
trigger the folding, for instance by a temperature jump, and track the folding process in real time using
one- and two-dimensional vibrational spectroscopy in combination with site-specific labeling. This will
make it possible to obtain a structurally and temporally resolved picture of protein folding, which can be
regarded as a 'molecular movie' of the folding process. Group website:

A post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of R. Glen Macdonald in the Chemical Dynamics
and Kinetics Group at Argonne National Laboratory. The experiments involve the use of high-resolution,
time-resolved absorption spectroscopy to study the kinetics and dynamics of radical-radical reactions
related to combustion processes. Argonne National Laboratory offers excellent compensation and
benefits packages. Candidates should submit curriculum vitae, lists of publications and presentations,
and the names and mailing addresses of three references through the Argonne website at
http://www.anl.gov/jobs under Job Search for Postdoctoral/Jobs Openings, Requisition Number 315873
CSE. For further information, please contact Glen Macdonald, email: rgmacdonald@anl.gov or phone:

Postdoctoral and PhD positions, link of which is given below. Experience in fields such as organic
chemistry, surface science, and (bio)nanotechnology is welcomed. The group aims at research at the
highest international level. Candidates that fit into this environment are invited to apply. The postdoctoral
positions are typically for 2-3 years. PhD positions are for 4 years.
(iv) PhD POSITIONS IN NATIONAL SUN YAT - SEN UNIVERSITY, Kaohsiung, Taiwan
For those intend to apply the PhD or master positions, please forward the following documents first.
For all details regarding the graduate studies at NSYSU (DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND
MARINE BIOTECHNOLOGY) and application form, please go to the following web page to download.
NSYSU provide tuition waiver and also 15000 dollars/month (Taiwan money) for fellowship. In addition,
NSYSU also award paper scholarship (10000 dollars for each paper publication in SCI journals. Thus,
for those with good research ability could get excellent financial support.
Research fields:
A postdoc fellowship is offered in the field of quantum chemistry in the Institute of Chemistry, the
Hebrew University, Jerusalem. The main goal of the project is to study photochemical reactions
proceeding via conical intersections. Work will involve localization and characterization of conical
intersections (CI), quantum chemistry calculations of potential energy surfaces (PES) and their
couplings as well as quantum dynamics simulations and control of the resulting reactions. The
cooperation also serves for training of the PhD students in our complementary fields of expertise.
Candidates should have a strong background in quantum chemistry and computational methods. Work
will involve high level quantum chemical calculations using methods such as CASSCF, MRCI and etc.
Calculations will be on gas phase molecules as well as on solvated ones.
We are looking for outstanding experimentalists that are eager to participate in our research. Experience
in fields such as organic chemistry, surface science, and (bio)nanotechnology is welcomed. The group
aims at research at the highest international level. Candidates that fit into this environment are invited to
apply. The postdoctoral positions are typically for 2-3 years. PhD positions are for 4 years. Applicants
are invited to submit a letter including CV with publication list and names/email addresses of 3 or more

Funding program, salary, duration: C2EA is a French organization centered on fundamental and applied
research in alternative and nuclear energies. The postdoctoral position is funded ASAP for 12 months
by its national program “Nano-simulation”. The salary will be that of a staff C2EA agent of equivalent
qualifications to that of the postdoctoral applicant.
Required qualifications: We are seeking a post-doc with documented skills in molecular dynamics and
Monte Carlo simulations. The applicant should be used to work with and also to modify heavy computer
codes. Knowledge of reactive potentials and of the Tight Binding method is wished. The post-doc will
have the main responsibility of the project direction on nanotube growth.
Application procedure: The application shall be written in English or French and include the following
