History of modern European spiritual life

The Christian community (die Christengemeinschaft)

At the ending of the 19th century, there were many catholic and protestant people who
were inconcent with their churches.
They thought something like this: Our churches only preserve dogms in which one
shall believe; but nobody has a real knowledge about the spiritual world. They preserve
ancient rituals because of convention, but nobody knows what he is actually doing.
Our faith is only a corpse whose life has vanished many hundred years ago. If we
continue like this, we are cheat ourselves because we are dishonest and superficial.
Today, we are no longer able to believe in our own holy Scripture, the Bible; or, if we
forced us to believe in it, we would have to deny all achievements of the Age of
Enlightenment and all results of modern natural science. We need a complete
renewal/reformation of the Christian religion. If this reformation does not come,
mankind will forget heaven, soul and spirit, and only think of the human being as a
more intelligent animal, whose life purpose is nothing but gratification and fun.
After World War I, there was a group of them (ca. 70 people) most of them protestant
theologians, but also some catholics who sought help from the Austrian Dr. Rudolf
Steiner (1861-1925). Rudolf Steiner had studied natural science and philosophy; he
was the first editor of Goethes natural-scientific scriptures and made his PhD in
Philosophy with the work Truth and Science. Steiner was initiated in ancient and
modern secret doctrines and well-known throughout Europe as a spiritual lecturer (a
person who habitually makes public speeches/lectures, not within an academic environment).

Steiner helped the group to develop a renewed christianity with profound spiritual
roots, based on Steiners research, called Anthroposophy. The results of this research
are written down by Steiner himself in form of about 40 books; besides, written-notes
of Steiners lectures have been printed, about 90.000 pages. His results completely
agree with the ancient doctrines and with any kind of honest and unprejudiced science.
Today, the Christian Community has about 35.000 members worldwide (including
Russia, Japan, New Zealand, Brazil) and twice as many friends.
However, there are much more Anthroposophists 1 who have nothing to do with the
Christian Community, because Anthroposophy is like a seed which can fertilize all
fields of life:
Religion (Christian Community),
Science (Goetheanistic inspired phenomenalistic science),
Medicine (Heileurythmie, Anthroposophic Medicine, color therapy),
Art (Eurythmie, veil-painting),
Agriculture (Demeter organic farming) etc...
