La luz emitida por una fuente luminosa se comporta de manera diferente en funcin del medio en el que se encuentre o de
la supercie a la que est dirigida. Por este motivo, la eleccin
de los materiales que utilizamos es igual de importante que la
fuente en s.
The light emitted by a light source behaves differently depending on the surrounding medium or the surface onto which
it is projected. For this reason the choice of the materials that
we use is as important as the light source itself.
Cuando los rayos de luz inciden en una supercie

pueden darse tres fenmenos:
Three phenomena can occur when light rays strike

a surface:

Es el fenmeno segn el cual la materia absorbe toda o parte de

la luz visible que incide sobre esta.
Un material como el terciopelo negro absorber gran parte de
la luz, por el contrario una pared blanca reejar la mayora de la
radiacin recibida.
This phenomenon occurs when the material absorbs all or

part of the visible light that strikes it.
A material such as black velvet will absorb the majority of the
light, while a white wall will reect most of the radiation it receives.

Tiene lugar cuando la luz incide sobre un material y pasa a travs

de este. En funcin de la transparencia tenemos tres tipos de
materiales.
Transmission occurs when light strikes a material and passes

through it. We can dene three types of material according
to their transparency.
Material transparente:
Aquel que deja pasar toda o gran parte
de la luz.
Material translcido:
Aquel que deja pasar parte de la luz de
manera difusa.
Material opaco:
Aquel que no deja pasar luz.
Transparent Material:
Material that allows all - or a large
part - of the light to pass through the
material.
Translucent Material:
Material that allows light to pass
through in a diffuse manner.
Opaque Material:
Material through which no light can
pass.
La transparencia de un material se cuantica como transmitancia, que es la proporcin de luz que se transmite en relacin con
la luz que incide sobre este.
The transparency of a material is quantied as transmittance, which is the proportion of light transmitted in relation to
the incident light striking the material.

Ocurre cuando los rayos de luz inciden sobre una supercie y

tras chocar contra ella, vuelven al medio del que salieron.
Reection occurs when the light rays striking a surface return

to the medium from which they came.
Reexin especular:
Se produce en supercies muy lisas o pulidas, en las que
el ngulo de incidencia de la luz es igual al ngulo de reexin. Un espejo o un charco seran ejemplos de reexin
especular.
Specular reection:
This occurs on very smooth or polished surfaces where
the angle of the incident light is equal to the angle of the
reection. A mirror or a lake are examples of specular
reection.
Reexin difusa:
Se da en supercies rugosas o con cierta textura, sobre las
que la luz incidente se reeja en todas direcciones. Ejemplos de estas seran pintura mate o ladrillo.
Diffuse reection:
This occurs when light strikes rough surfaces or those
with certain textures where the light is reected in all
directions. Examples of these surfaces are matt paint or
brick.
Reexin compuesta:
Es una mezcla de ambas, una parte de la reexin es especular pero a su vez tiene un componente de luz difusa.
Se da en la mayora de los materiales reales tales como por
ejemplo metales corrugados o deslustrados.
Spread reection:
This is a mixture of the other two: one part of the reection is specular but there is also a diffuse component.
It occurs in most real materials such as corrugated or
tarnished metals.

La consideracin de la luz elctrica como un material de construccin fue reconocida en los aos 20, y evolucion hasta convertirse en una potente herramienta de diseo hacia mediados
de siglo. Hasta entonces la iluminacin arquitectnica haba estado dominada por un punto de vista de ingeniera, centrada en
los niveles de iluminacin para tareas especcas.
Richard Kelly (1910-1977) fue un diseador de iluminacin estadounidense, considerado uno de los pioneros del diseo de
iluminacin arquitectnica. Formado en iluminacin teatral, Kelly
aplic su punto de vista escenogrco a la arquitectura, marcando un antes y un despus en el diseo de iluminacin. Sus ideas,
aunque sencillas, fueron revolucionarias y han inuenciado enormemente tanto la iluminacin como la arquitectura moderna.
The consideration of electric light as a construction material was rst recognised in the 1920s, and became a powerful
design tool towards the middle of the last century. Until then
architectural lighting had been dominated by an engineering
point of view, centred on the lighting levels required for specic tasks.
Richard Kelly (1910-1977), an American lighting designer, is
considered to be one of the pioneers of architectural lighting
design. Kelly trained in theatrical lighting and applied his scenographic point of view to architecture, marking a turning
point in lighting design. His ideas, although simple, were revolutionary and have enormously inuenced both lighting
and modern architecture

La teora de Kelly tiene diversas inuencias, entre las que se encuentran los principios de la percepcin, los elementos bsicos
de iluminacin teatral o los efectos de luz que encontramos en la
naturaleza. Kelly se aleja de la iluminancia uniforme como base
para un proyecto de iluminacin, sustituyndola por la calidad
de la luz.
Kellys theory has a number of inuences, including the principles of perception, the basic elements of theatrical lighting
and the light effects found in nature. Kelly moved away from
uniform illumination as the basis for a lighting project, focussing instead on the quality of the light.

que las zonas iluminadas atraen involuntariamente la atraccin
de las personas.

Esta luz no solo proporciona informacin acerca de los
espacios u objetos iluminados, sino que es informacin en s
misma.
Patterns of light or highlights.

This light not only provides information regarding the
illuminated spaces or objects, but it is also information in
itself.
EL CONTRASTE:
CONTRAST:
La informacin visual se compone de diferencias en niveles de

iluminacin, que el cerebro procesa de manera inconsciente. Lo
que est ms iluminado atrae la atencin mientras que lo que no
lo est pasa desapercibido: nuestra percepcin es resultado del
contraste.
Las relaciones de contraste sirven para cuanticar la diferencia
entre iluminancias contiguas, que suelen ser la luz general y los
acentos. Un espacio con contraste bajo (1:1) o normal (2:1) se lee
como un espacio relativamente plano en el que no hay nada que
resalte. Un contraste acentuado (3:1) permite comprender mejor
el espacio y captar sus diferencias tanto desde un punto de vista
esttico como prctico, mientras que un contraste profundo (5:1)
tiene un efecto dramtico o teatral que se utiliza generalmente
con nes estticos.
El uso del contraste ha de combinar el confort visual con la jerarquizacin de los espacios u objetos.
Visual information is composed of different lighting levels,

which the brain processes unconsciously. Bright lighting attracts the attention while unlit areas go unnoticed: our perception is a result of contrast.
Degrees of contrast quantify the difference between adjacent
illuminated areas, which are often lit by ambient light and accents. A space with low contrast (1:1) or normal contrast (2:1)
is seen as a relatively at space without highlights. An accentuated contrast (3:1) provides a greater understanding of the
space and captures its differences from both an aesthetic and
practical point of view, while a deep contrast (5:1) has a dramatic or theatrical effect that is generally used for aesthetic
purposes.
The use of contrast has to combine visual comfort with the
hierarchical classication of spaces or objects.

Recientemente hemos observado cmo retail y arquitectura

desarrollaban una relacin cada vez ms estrecha. Los espacios
comerciales han pasado de ser meros lugares donde realizar
compras para convertirse en una extensin fsica, palpable, de las
marcas o productos. Asimismo, el comercio online crece exponencialmente mientras que el comercio tradicional desaparece,
y las tiendas ven reducido su tamao.
Las tiendas ahora sirven un propsito adicional: encarnar el concepto de la marca. El futuro del comercio pasa por conectar con
los clientes, escucharles, entender sus necesidades y proporcionarles experiencias agradables y placenteras. Se trata no solo de
vender, sino de construir la imagen de la marca y de generar una
conexin emocional que delice a los clientes.
Est demostrado que aspectos claves en el comportamiento del
comprador no se han tenido en consideracin hasta ahora. El
nuevo enfoque incluye esttica, aspectos multisensoriales e incluso el disfrute y la diversin como parte de la experiencia de
compra.
Los espacios de compra se convierten en el lienzo perfecto sobre el cual los expertos en iluminacin pueden expresarse de

iluminar el producto por un motivo meramente prctico, sino

We have increasingly noticed that retail and architecture

have been developing an ever-closer relationship. Commercial spaces have changed from being mere places to sell
things and have become a physical, palpable extension of
the brands or products. Additionally, buying over the internet
is growing exponentially, while traditional shopping is disappearing and shops are reducing in size.
Shops now have an additional purpose: to embody a brands
image. The future of shopping involves connecting with
customers, listening to them, understanding their needs and
providing them with agreeable and pleasant experiences. It is
no longer enough just selling, shops have to build a brands
image and make an emotional connection that encourages
customer loyalty.
It is demonstrable that key aspects of the purchasers behaviour have not been taken into consideration until now. The
new focus includes aesthetics, multisensory aspects and
even enjoyment and fun as part of the shopping experience.
Shopping spaces are becoming the perfect canvas on which
lighting experts can express themselves in an innovative
way, allowing them to create something magical. The objective now is not just to simply light a product in a practical
way, but also to create an unforgettable experience for the
customer. Shops have become a cultural phenomenon and
are an exceptional opportunity for experimenting with light
and sensations.

La iluminacin de una tienda puede jugar un papel fundamental
en el proceso de compra. Hay cuatro fases clave claramente diferenciadas dentro de este proceso, y en cada una de ellas podemos utilizar diferentes estrategias de iluminacin.

A shops lighting can play an important role in the shopping
process. There are four key, clearly differentiated phases within this process and we can use different lighting strategies
in each of them.

compradores y conseguir que entren en la tienda.
The objective of this phase is to attract the attention of the

shoppers and ensure that they enter the shop.

El escaparate es la carta de presentacin de la tienda, es un expositor cuyo objetivo es atraer a clientes al interior. Como tal, ha
de representar elmente la esttica y el ambiente de la tienda a la
vez que realza los productos expuestos. Se trata de atraer clientes
hacia el interior.
The shop window is the shops letter of recommendation; it

is a display whose purpose is to attract the customers inside.
It, therefore, has to faithfully represent the shops aesthetic
and atmosphere while enhancing the displayed products. It
relates to attracting customers into the shop.

Es muy importante analizar el entorno en el cual se encuentra el

escaparate para denir la estrategia de iluminacin a utilizar. Si el
escaparate es interior, como por ejemplo en un centro comercial, la iluminacin ser constante a lo largo del da, mientras que
en una tienda a pie de calle debemos tener en cuenta la iluminacin natural. La cantidad de luz en el entorno inmediato del escaparate determinar el nivel necesario para realzar la mercanca.
It is very important to analyse the shop windows location

and surroundings in order to dene the best lighting strategy to use. If the shop window is within a built environment,
such as, for example, in a shopping centre, the lighting can
be constant throughout the day, while the lighting of a shop
in the street should take natural lighting into account. The
amount of light in the shop windows immediate surroundings will determine the levels necessary to enhance the
goods on display.
Calidad de la luz:
El tipo de luz ha de ser consistente con la imagen de la tienda. Del mismo modo que los productos expuestos mandan un
mensaje acerca de la esttica de la tienda o el tipo de cliente al
que est dirigida, la iluminacin tambin sirve para trasladar un
mensaje acerca del tipo de comercio. El cliente identica inconscientemente cada tipo de tienda con una iluminacin diferente.
Un outlet store generalmente tiene una iluminacin plana y fra
mientras que una tienda de lujo se caracteriza por una iluminacin ms clida y puntual. Podemos utilizar esta informacin
para mandar un mensaje acerca de nuestro tipo de comercio.
Quality of the light:

The type of light has to be consistent with the shops image.
In the same way that the displayed articles send a message
about the shops aesthetic or the type of customer it is aimed at, the lighting also acts to transmit a message regarding
the business. Customers unconsciously identify different lighting schemes with different types of shop. An outlet store
generally has at, cold lighting while a luxury shop is characterised by warmer more focussed lighting. We can use this
information to send a message regarding our type of business.

types of lighting in a shop window:

Limita visualmente el espacio de la intervencin y crea uniformidad.
Ambient or general lighting:

Light that visually denes the intervention space and
creates uniformity.
Luz para mirar o iluminacin puntual:

Realza determinados productos creando un contraste y jerarquizando el espacio.
Accent or spot lighting:

Light that enhances certain products by creating a contrast and a spatial hierarchy.
Luz para contemplar o iluminacin decorativa:

Tiene una funcin meramente esttica.
Scenic or decorative lighting:

Light for purely aesthetic purposes.
Deslumbramiento:
La ubicacin y orientacin de las luminarias son dos
factores claves a tener en cuenta para evitar el deslumbramiento. Las luminarias han de orientarse hacia el interior del escaparate, y no hacia el exterior.
Lo ideal es colocar las luminarias entre el objeto a
iluminar y el espectador, de manera que el producto
quede iluminado frontalmente.
Glare:
The position and aiming of the light ttings are
two of the key factors to keep in mind in order
to avoid glare. The lights must be aimed towards
the shop windows interior and not towards the
exterior. Ideally we should place the ttings between the object to be lit and the viewer so that
the product is lit from the front.

The merchandise in the shop window should be properly represented, so it is important to use lights that faithfully reproduce its colours.

Una distribucin ja de las luminarias va a condicionar la iluminacin enormemente. La iluminacin mediante un carril con proyectores es ideal ya que nos permite modicar la cantidad de
puntos de luz, la ubicacin de los mismos o sus ngulos de apertura y as adaptar la iluminacin a los cambios en el escaparate.
A xed layout of the light ttings will strongly inuence the

lighting. Lighting using a track with spot lights is ideal as it
allows us to change the number of light points, their location
or their beam angle, thereby adapting the lighting to changes
in the shop window.
Color/Luz dinmica:
Dynamic colour/light:
El uso de luz de color o luz dinmica es cada vez ms popular

en escaparates, y es efectiva a la hora de atraer la atencin de
los consumidores. Se recomienda utilizarla de manera puntual
o para crear ambiente, ya que su uso extensivo distorsiona los
colores y puede resultar visualmente molesto.
The use of coloured light or dynamic light is increasingly popular in shop windows and it is effective in attracting a customers attention. It is best used in a limited way or to create
atmosphere, since extensive use will distort the colour and
could be visually annoying.
Entrada/Salida
Entrance/Exit
Al igual que el escaparate, la entrada ha de servir para atraer la

atencin del cliente desde el exterior. Utilizamos los niveles de
iluminacin para jerarquizar el espacio por lo que en la entrada
es recomendable utilizar niveles ms elevados que en el resto.
Asimismo, desde el interior la entrada ha de ser claramente identicable para agilizar el proceso de compra.
Just like the shop window, the entrance has to attract the
customers attention from the outside. We use light levels
to prioritise the space. Therefore it is advisable to use higher
light levels in the entrance than in the other areas. The entrance must also be clearly identiable from the interior to
enhance the shopping experience.

En esta fase del proceso el objetivo es que el cliente se sienta

atrado por el producto, y pase de ser un visitante para convertirse
en comprador potencial.
The objective of this phase of the process is to ensure that the

customer feels attracted by the product and changes from
being a visitor to being a potential buyer.

Se trata de conseguir que el cliente se sienta a gusto en la tienda,

para lo cual debemos crear una atmsfera agradable, al mismo
tiempo que realzamos el producto, concentrado en expositores,
maniques o estanteras.
The customer should be made to feel at ease in the shop, and

therefore we need to create a pleasant atmosphere while also
enhancing the product by focussing on the exhibits, mannequins or shelves.

Con luminarias situadas en los techos, garantiza la comprensin
del espacio, la identicacin de las diferentes zonas y la circulacin principal. Los niveles han de cuidarse, una iluminacin demasiado tenue puede resultar incmoda mientras que un nivel
demasiado elevado es visualmente molesto y puede crear deslumbramiento.
Ambient or general lighting:

Ceiling lights ensure an understanding of the space, the
identication of different areas and the main walkways. Care
has to be taken with the lighting levels: excessively tenuous
lighting can be uncomfortable while an over-bright lighting
scheme is visually annoying and can create glare.
Luz para mirar o iluminacin puntual:

Mediante el uso de luminarias de techo con haces ms intensivos o incorporando luz dentro del propio mobiliario, podemos
realzar zonas concretas de la tienda consiguiendo as captar la
atencin de los compradores.
Accent or spot lighting:

We can create specic areas within the shop using ceiling
lights with more intensive beams or incorporating light
within shop ttings to draw the shoppers attention.
Requieren iluminacin de acento varios elementos dentro de la

tienda:
There are a number of elements within the shop that require

this type of accent lighting:
Maniques/Displays de pared:
Requieren altos niveles de iluminacin en el plano vertical por lo
que la disposicin de las luminarias en relacin con el objeto ha
de estar cuidada. Si se colocan demasiado lejos pueden provocar
deslumbramiento, mientras que si se colocan inmediatamente
sobre los mismos generan sombras muy duras. Suelen orientarse
de manera que los haces se crucen, consiguiendo as que la luz
llegue al producto independientemente de donde se encuentre
el observador, y evitando sombras.
Mannequins/Wall displays:
Care must be taken with the lighting arrangement as these
elements require high light levels on the vertical plane. Locating lights too far away can create glare, while if they are located immediately above the elements they can create harsh
shadows. They are usually arranged so that their beams intersect. This avoids shadows as the light reaches the product
in a uniform manner and does not change with the observers position.
Estanteras:
Conseguir un buen nivel de iluminacin en estanteras nicamente mediante luminarias ubicadas en el techo es muy complicado, ya que las propias baldas arrojan sombra unas sobre las
otras. Una estrategia efectiva es incorporar iluminacin lineal o
puntual en las mismas, de manera que no solo conseguimos un
nivel ptimo sino que atraemos ms atencin sobre las mismas.
Shelves:
Getting a good level of illumination on shelves only using
ceiling-mounted lights is extremely difficult as the shelves
cast shadows on each other. An effective strategy is to incorporate linear or spot lighting within the shelves. This not
only ensures optimum lighting levels but also attracts more
attention to the shelves.

Complementa la esttica de la tienda, suele conseguirse mediante el uso de luminarias decorativas o apliques.
Scenic or decorative lighting:

La estrategia de iluminacin de una tienda ha de culminar con
una adecuada iluminacin en los probadores. Est demostrado
que ms de la mitad de las ventas se deciden aqu, por lo que
aspectos como el IRC, la temperatura y la disposicin de los puntos de luz son ms importantes que en cualquier otro espacio. A
diferencia del resto de la tienda, donde intentamos evitar la iluminacin plana, aqu una iluminacin general difusa favorece
como nos vemos en el espejo.
La clave de la iluminacin en un probador es encontrar el equilibrio entre la luz frontal superior y la iluminacin frontal/ lateral. La
luz frontal superior colocada a 45 grados se percibe como muy
natural, no genera sombras duras y resalta la forma y la textura de
las prendas, mientras que la luz lateral/frontal elimina por completo las sombras y nos hace vernos ms atractivos.
En caso de disponer nicamente de luz superior, esta ha de estar siempre entre la persona y el espejo, y es preferible utilizar
dos puntos de luz de menos intensidad a uno muy potente, ya
que de esta manera eliminamos las sombras muy pronunciadas
y conseguimos un efecto ms uniforme.
Changing rooms
A shops lighting strategy must culminate in suitable lighting
in the changing rooms. It has been shown that more than half
of sales are decided here, and therefore aspects such as the
CRI, temperature and the arrangement of the light sources
are more important here than in any other space. In contrast
to the rest of the shop, where we try to avoid at lighting, in
the changing room a general, diffuse lighting favours how
we see ourselves in the mirror.
The key to lighting a changing room is to nd the balance
between top/front lighting and front/side lighting. Top/front
lighting placed at an angle of 45 degrees is perceived as very
natural since it does not create harsh shadows and highlights
the shape and texture of the clothes, while front/side lighting
completely eliminates shadows and enhances our perception of our own image.
Where there is only top lighting it should always be between
the person and the mirror and it is preferable to use two
less-intense light sources than one stronger source, as this
eliminates pronounced shadows and achieves a more uniform effect.

Warehouse lighting is purely functional. To ensure the rapid

The visible spectrum

Light can be considered an electromagnetic radiation, called
radiant energy. This energy is capable of activating the human eyes retina and produce a visual sensation.
The traditional concept of light is based on an anthropological conception, according to which the human being connects visually with the world around them.
The visible spectrum, which comprises the radiant emissions
with a wavelength between 380 and 780 nm, is the portion of
the electromagnetic spectrum which is visible to the human
eye.
The white light perceived by the eye is a mixture of all the visible wavelengths. The visible spectrum can be broken down
into its different wavelengths using a quartz prism which reects each of them separately.

The colour triangle was established in 1931, by the Comission Internationale de lclairage (CIE). It precisely denes
the three primary colours of additive colour from which all
others can be created. The chart represents all the chromaticities visible to an average person, with the spectral
colours (more saturated) at the outer edge and the lighter
colours towards the centre. White is located where all the

of a light source to reproduce colours.
The concept of colour rendering is dened by the appearance of the colours of the objects lit by this light source in comparison with their appearance under a reference illuminant

La temperatura de color depende de la distribucin de la luz

emitida en la parte visible del espectro. Desde un punto de vista
cientco, representa la temperatura a la que un cuerpo negro
debe calentarse para que emita una luz del mismo color que la
de la fuente de luz estudiada. La temperatura se mide en grados
Kelvin (K).
Cuando en una fuente de luz predomina el rojo se trata de una
luz clida. Al contrario, si predomina el color azul se trata de una
luz fra. En la prctica, para conseguir un ambiente agradable a
la vista con fuentes fras necesitaremos mayores niveles de iluminacin que si hubisemos utilizado las fuentes clidas.
Las lmparas utilizadas normalmente se dividen en tres grupos
de temperaturas de color:
Blanco clido (ww). Temperatura de color inferior a 3.300 K
Blanco neutro (nw). Entre 3.300 y 5.000 K.
Luz da (tw). Superior a 5.000 K.
Como ejemplos extremos, una bombilla incandescente tiene
una temperatura de color de 2.700 K frente a 6.000 K de un
tubo uorescente luz da. Debe recordarse que dos fuentes de
luz con la misma temperatura de color pueden tener diferentes
propiedades de reproduccin del color a causa de su diferente
distribucin espectral.
Colour temperature depends on the distribution of the light

emitted in the visible part of the spectrum. Scientically, it represents the temperature a black body must be at in order to
emit light of the same colour as that of the light source which
is being studied. This temperature is measured in kelvin (K).
When in the light of a particular light source the predominant colour is red, this light is considered warm. In contrast,
if blue predominates, it is a cold light. In practice, in order
to obtain with cold light sources an environment which is
pleasant to the eye, we will need higher levels of lighting
than if we chose warm sources.
The lamps most commonly used are divided in three groups
of colour temperatures:
Warm white (ww). Colour temperature under 3,300 K
Neutral white (nw). Between 3,300 and 5,000 K.
Daylight white (tw). Over 5,000 K.
As extreme examples, an incandescent bulb has a colour
temperature of 2,700 K, while that of a daylight uorescent

DIRECT LIGHT EMISSION
El diagrama de intensidad luminosa es el resultado de tomar medidas de intensidad luminosa en diversos ngulos alrededor de
una luminaria y presentar los resultados en un grco, generalmente en coordenadas polares.
El grco muestra dos planos verticales: uno transversal y otro
longitudinal ( 0 y 90 ). Normalmente, el transversal se representa en color rojo y el longitudinal en azul.
En los casos en los que la distribucin luminosa de una luminaria
tiene el mismo comportamiento en todos sus planos verticales,
la curva polar se representa mediante un solo trazo, generalmente, en color rojo. Este es el caso de las luminarias con una
distribucin completamente simtrica en los planos verticales.
Habitualmente, la informacin fotomtrica de una luminaria lo
determina el ujo luminoso de 1000 Lm por lo que los valores
del grco se expresan en cd/Klm. De esta forma podremos
comparar distintas fuentes de luz o luminarias para poder escoger la ms adecuada a nuestras necesidades.
The light intensity diagram is the representation on a graph (generally by polar coordinates) of measurements of light
intensity taken in different angles around a lamp. The graph
shows two vertical planes: transverse and longitudinal (0
and 90). Usually, the transverse plane is represented in red
and the longitudinal, in blue.
When the light distribution of a luminaire presents the same
behaviour in all its vertical planes, the polar curve is represented by a single line, generally red. This is the case for luminaires with a completely symmetrical light distribution in
its vertical planes.
Usually, a luminaires photometric information is determined
by the 1000 Lm luminous ux; for this reason the graphs values are expressed in cd/Klm. This way, we will be able to
compare different light sources or luminaires in order to be
able to choose the one which is most suitable to our needs.

En el caso que el diagrama de intensidad luminosa sea simtrico

obtenemos la informacin necesaria para generar el cono de luz.
En este diagrama se indica el dimetro del crculo iluminado segn el ngulo de proyeccin y el nivel de iluminacin medio en
relacin a la distancia a la supercie iluminada. Esta supercie se
supone perpendicular al eje del haz de luz.

necessary information to generate the light cone.
This diagram shows the diameter of the lit circle determined
by the projection angle and the average level of lighting in
relation to the distance to the lit surface. This surface is supposed to be perpendicular to the axis of the light beam.

UGR VALUES
El mtodo UGR (Unied Glare Rating ndice de deslumbramiento unicado) ha sido introducido por la CIE (Comisin
Internacional de Iluminacin) mediante la publicacin CIE
117 1995 Deslumbramiento molesto en la Iluminacin de
Interiores para tener un mtodo unicado para la evaluacin del
deslumbramiento. A diferencia del mtodo anterior (Diagrama
de luminancia o de Sllner), el ndice de deslumbramiento depende tanto de las caractersticas de la luminaria como de las
caractersticas del ambiente donde est instalado teniendo en
cuenta la posicin relativa observador luminaria. El ndice de
deslumbramiento UGR se calcula a partir de las dimensiones de
la habitacin, del tipo de luminaria, de sus dimensiones y de las
propiedades de reexin de las supercies del ambiente.

The UGR method (Unied Glare Rating) has been introduced

by the CIE (International Commission on Illumination) with
the publication of CIE 117 1995 Discomfort glare in interior
Lighting to have a unique method to evaluate the glare. In
comparison to the previous method (Luminance diagram or

Las dimensiones del ambiente como tambin de la distancia

Para comprender mejor el signicado, los valores UGR indicados
en el diagrama polar de la luminaria han sido agrupados en las
siguientes clases de ejemplicacin por tipologa de aplicacin,
del modo como ha sido especicado en la norma UNE 12464.1:

The environment dimensions, as well as the distance between axis in both directions are specied by in relation to the
