Acceptance Speech- Ed Adamowski

Good evening,
I would like to thank you all for being here tonight. I especially want to
thank the ADTC for nominating me as the Democratic mayoral
candidate. I would also like to thank my children, mother and father
and my wonderful fiance Brittany.
Tonight is a very special moment, it means a great deal to me that you
have\ entrusted me with your nomination to be your Democratic
mayoral candidate. As many of you know I am a life long Ansonia
resident. I have dedicated the last 21 years of my life giving back to
our community. I started as a volunteer firefighter, worked me way up
to lieutenant, and captain. I currently serve as the 1st assistant fire
chief. One thing I have learned from the fire department is leadership is
about building a team, taking some risks, and coming together to
accomplish goals. We do this all the time in the Fire Department. We go
into burning buildings as a team, while sometimes people are trying to
get out. That is exactly what we are going to do in this campaign.
Come together, work as a team, and change the direction of our
community and strengthen our city.
We have to band together as Democrats, Republicans and
Independents, as neighbors, as friends, as parents, as seniors, as men
and as women as citizens who care about Ansonia and as families. We
have to take some risks, we have to put our community above our own
interests and return this city to the kind of government that will make
us proud again to call Ansonia home.
We should not be in the paper because we are the only community in
the State of Connecticut where the Mayor hands out our tax bills but
refuses to pay his own. We should not have to be embarrassed that
our Mayor uses our own money to spend on lawyers and outlandish
legal bills but cannot find the money for senior property tax relief
programs to help our seniors on fixed incomes. We should not have to
wonder if our Mayor is looking out for the City of Ansonia or is he using
his position to solve his own financial problems?
We deserve better! We deserve more! For the past six years, I have
serves as Ansonias First Ward Alderman. I was Chairman of the
Finance Committee for four years and also the Salary Committee. I
understand the budget process. Looking forward, I would like to talk
about my positive vision for Ansonia. There are three areas I would like
to focus on if I was elected Mayor.

First, we must create a more responsible and sustainable budget in

order to lower taxes and decrease city spending. Second, we must
foster economic development to grow the tax base and reduce the tax
burden on the residents. Third, we must lower municipal expenses.
WE NEED LOWER TAXES!!
We need a robust senior tax relief program. We must stop this mayors
alarming practice of wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on legal
fees. We do not need to spend four hundred dollars an hour to solve
every problem in Ansonia no matter how much Mayor David Cassetti
messes it up. These three specific goals, a reasonable budget,
economic development and a senior tax relief program are the first
among many I will work to address in Ansonia. However, I cannot do
this without you! We will win by knocking on doors, making phone
calls and coming together to make this campaign larger than anyone of
us. I will need your help to deliver this positive vision for Ansonia to
each and every door-step and together through the grace of God and
through determination of our common bond and purpose. WE WILL
WIN THIS CAMPAIGN!
Thank you all and have a good night. Lets get to work!
