Review of Australian Standards. To keep abreast of progress in industry, Australi an Standards are subject
to periodic review and are kept up to date by the issue of amendments or new editi ons as necessary. It is
important therefore that Standards users ensure that they are in possession of the latest editi on, and any
amendments thereto.
Full details of all Australi an Standards and related publications will be found in the Standards Australia
Catalogue of Publications; this information is supplemented each month by the magazine The Australi an
Standard, which subscribing members receive, and which gives detail s of new publications, new edit ions
and amendments, and of withdrawn Standards.
Suggesti ons for improvements to Australian Standards, addressed to the head off ice of Standards Australi a,
are welcomed. Noti fi cati on of any inaccuracy or ambiguity found in an Australian Standard should be made
without delay in order that the matter may be investigated and appropriate action taken.

This Standard was issued in draft form for comment as DR 90128.

PREFACE
This Standard was prepared by the Standards Australia Committee on Power Transformers to
supersede AS 2326.11980. It is identical with and has been reproduced from IEC 214:1989,
On-load tap-changers. Variations to the IEC publicationrequired to suit Australian requirements
are indicated by marginal bars and detailed in Australian Appendix AA.
This Standard is the first part of a two-part Standard, viz.
AS 2326
On-load tap-changers
Part 1: Requirements
Part 2: Application guide.
Under arrangements made between Standards Australia and the international Standards
bodies, ISO and IEC, as well as certain other Standards organizations, users of this Australian
Standard are advised of the following:
(a) Copyright is vested in Standards Australia.
(b) The number of this Standard is not reproduced on each page; its identity is shown only on
the cover and title pages.
(c) There may be occasional dual language sections, but English is always one of the
languages reproduced.
(d) Where any cross-references to page numbers appear within the text, these relate to page
numbering in the International Standard and are to be disregarded.
Statements expressed in mandatory terms in notes to clauses, tables, and figures are deemed
to be requirements of this Standard.
For the purposes of this Australian, Standard, the IEC text should be modified as follows:
(i) Clauses In accordance with Australian Appendix AA.
(ii) Decimal marker Substitute a full point for a comma as a decimal marker.
(iii) References Replace references to International Standards by references to Australian

Part 1: Requirements

SECTION ONE - GENERAL

1. Scope

This is a free 6 page sample. Access the full version online.

This standard applies to on-load tap-changers* for power transformers and their
motor-drive mechanisms. It relates mainly to tap-changers immersed in transformer oil
according to IEC Publication 296, but may also be used for gas-insulated tap-changers
in so far as conditions are applicable.

Note.-

For the purpose of this standard, a syntheti c insulati ng liquid is regarded as an oil. A syntheti c
insulati ng liquid can be used for a tap-changer only if it is compati ble wit h the tap-changer
design.

Tap-changers for transformers for railway rolling stock are excluded from this
standard.
In selecting a tap-changer for a particular application, reference should be made
to IEC Publication 542.

2. Service conditions

a)

Temperature of tap-changer environment

Unless more onerous conditions are specified by the purchaser, tap-changers are
regarded as suitable for operation over the ranges of temperature given in Table 1.
