Drainage and Flooding

Hydraulic modelling is at the core of
drainage and flooding assessments and
Innovyzes InfoWorks Suite represents the
leading standalone solution for this work.
InfoWorks CS (Collection Systems)
has a long heritage of outstanding
modelling in the urban environment, whilst
InfoWorks RS (River Systems) has
established itself as one of the foremost
river catchment modelling solutions in the
world.

InfoWorks ICM (Integrated

Catchment Modelling) brings together
the best of both of these offerings,
providing truly integrated all-source
catchment modelling in one solution,
whilst adding the very latest technological
advances to redefine the process of
hydraulic model build and simulation.

All of these solutions benefit further from

the addition of the enhanced InfoWorks
2D engine, ideal for modelling flows
through complex geometries. Included
as standard with InfoWorks ICM and
available as an additional module for
InfoWorks CS and InfoWorks RS, the 2D
engine provides fast, accurate and detailed
surface flood modelling.

Real time flood forecasting has become

an increasingly standard requirement
around the world, with improvements in
computing power now able to support
the running of sophisticated hydraulic
models in a timely manner. Innovyzes
FloodWorks solution combines mature
InfoWorks simulation capabilities with
up-to-the-minute telemetry to provide
essential warnings, both for system
operators and to the public.

Drainage and Flooding

Integrated all-source catchment modelling

InfoWorks ICM (Integrated Catchment Modelling) is the first truly integrated modelling platform
to incorporate both urban and river catchments. With full integration of 1D and 2D modelling
techniques both the above- and below-ground elements of catchments can be modelled as
never before. InfoWorks ICM enables the hydraulics and hydrology of natural and manmade
environments to be incorporated into a single model.
Applications
Surface Water Management Plans and
sewerage master planning studies
Effective implementation of sustainable
urban drainage systems
Urban drainage storm runoff control and
retention design
Assessment of catchment future needs
under growth or climatic changes
Flooding and pollution prediction under
complex urban and river interaction
Hydraulic analysis of wastewater treatment
Infiltration and inflow assessments and
control

Unprecedented Model Creation

InfoWorks ICM allows engineers the ability to create
a single model that contains the salient features existing in an environment with a single, unified hydrology.
Manholes, pipes and inlets can be combined with natural
and man-made channels to create a model in which the
catchment and the flood plain are one, as they are in
real life. The additional ability to model objects such as
bridges, sluices, weirs and pumps, allows the creation of
models that are more complete and more accurate than
ever before.

Industry Leading Technology Support

InfoWorks ICM has been developed around the very latest technology developments, with ArcGIS compatibility
and integration at the very core of the solution. Hardware
developments such as multi-core processors and specialist graphics processing units (GPU) can be employed
to allow simulations to be run as quickly as possible.
InfoWorks ICM is also fully compatible with Microsofts
Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 operating systems, in both 32bit and 64bit editions, allowing users to
carry out leading-edge hydraulic modelling within a fast
and reliable environment.
Cutting Edge Simulation Techniques
Full two-dimensional (2D) surface flood modelling can
be employed across both the wastewater and river
components of the model, providing more precise
modelling of flows through complex geometries.
Real Time Control allows control structures to be programmed to respond automatically to conditions in the
system during a simulation, allowing the optimisation
of storage and operation.
Water quality and sedimentation studies can be carried out across both 1D and 2 D areas, allowing users
to assess the fate of pollutants entering the catchment
from both wash off and point sources.
The linking of 1D river channels and 2D floodplain is
carried out by means of lateral banks. The flow can
pass between these two components at any location
along the river, allowing real life conditions to be more
accurately modelled.
Greater Efficiencies with Remote
Simulation
InfoWorks ICM Remote Simulation allows the simulation
of models to be performed by remote agent machines,
which means engineers can start a simulation and then
return to the task of modelling without the performance
of their computer being affected. Remote agents can
either be similar computers within a small workgroup environment or alternatively high performance servers with
the capability to run simulations many times faster. This
is increasingly valuable as engineers require the ability
to simulate a large number of scenarios, within complex
environments, with the benefit of the latest 2D simulation
techniques applied.

Effortless Data Exchange

InfoWorks RS fully supports the import of a wide range
of geographic and time varying data. This data can
originate from other model formats such as ISIS & HECRAS, or can be sourced from GIS and DTM data. CSV
or txt data formats can also be used widely in order to
facilitate the model building process as much as possible. An easy-to-use system of data flags means that the
source and level of confidence in any imported data is
maintained. Exporting data from InfoWorks is also possible in a wide range of database, GIS or text file formats.

Powerful Model Build Capabilities

InfoWorks RS supports direct data take-off from Digital
Terrain Model (DTM) data, which can also be used to
generate and display ground level contours, crosssections, floodplain sections, levees, spill data and
stage-area tables. In addition InfoWorks RS offers the
direct import or graphical creation of sub-catchment
boundaries, over vector or raster map backgrounds.
Sophisticated functions enable engineers to compare
and combine models, whilst simple tools allow the drawing, extension and modification of rivers, embankments
and flood plain sections. The software includes a range
of data and model validation tools which ensure that the
model network, boundaries and structure control are
valid before simulation.

Comprehensive Simulation Capabilities

The Bank/Levee & Dam Breach Module offers dynamic simulation of the failure of earth embankments.
The Sediment Transport Module enables the prediction of sediment transport rates, bed elevations and
amounts of erosion/deposition throughout a channel
system.
The Water Quality Module is used to model the fate
and transport of pollutants within the river system. As
well as advection and diffusion of pollutants, chemical
processes may also affect the concentration of pollutants.
The Logical Control Module allows the remote manipulation of control structures within the model, in order to
optimize storage and operation.

Clearer Presentation and Analysis

Full interactive and animated views of data and results
are available using geographical plan views and 3D
views, sectional views, long profiles, spreadsheet and
time varying graphical data. Full flood-mapping capability
is provided based on a sophisticated flood-interpolation
model overlaid onto an imported groundmodel. In addition the underlying model data can be accessed from
any graphical or geographical view. A range of detailed
reports are also available, including statistical comparisons of calibration data, exceedence statistics and peak
timings.
