Travel The Zambezi River

The Zabezi River transverses several African countries, namely:

The Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Angola.
Botswana.
Zambia.
Namibia.
Mozambique.
Tanzania.
Malawi.
Zimbabwe.

It is Africas longest east flowing river and the fourth longest river on the
African continent. The basin of the Zambezi river measures some 540,000
square miles almost half of that of the Nile. The Zambezi River starts in
Zambia, flowing on through Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and
Zimbabwe to Mozambique where it empties into the Indian Ocean.
The Victoria Falls
The Zambezi River's most famous feature is the Victoria Falls. Known
colloquially as Mosi-oa-Tunya (or the smoke that thunders) this southern
African waterfall is situated on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. It
features two national parks: Victoria Falls National Park and Mosi-oa-Tunya
National Park.

Victoria Falls National Park

Victoria Falls National Park lies in the north west of Zimbabwe. The park
serves to protect the Zambezis east bank in the world famous Victoria Falls
area. The Victoria Falls National Park is a firm favourite with Tony Freeman as
a wildlife haven, having an area of 14.5 square miles and being home to a
multitude of flora and fauna.
The park is governed by the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management
Authority. It was founded on 3rd January 2013. A notable feature of Victoria
Falls National Park is its rainforest, encompassing species of palms, liana vines
and ferns as well as several species of tree like mahogany not seen elsewhere in
the area.
Visitors to Victoria Falls National Park may view cape buffalo, white rhino,
elephant, antelope and hippopotamus. Crocodiles are frequently spotted in and
around the Zambezi river and can be viewed more safely at the specially
designed Crocodile Ranch.
Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park
This national park is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is twinned
with Zimbabwes Victoria Falls National Park and lies in Zambia. The Mosioa-Tunya National Park is a wildlife enthusiasts paradise, covering some 25
square miles. The park is home to giraffe, sable, warthog, eland, impala and
zebra. Crocodile and hippopotamus can be seen in the Zambezi River.
Baboons and velvet monkeys are commonly spotted. The Mosi-oa-Tunya
National Park was founded in 1989. A commercial wildlife company, Lion
Encounter, has been operating a walk with lions experience in the park since
2009. Lion Encounter have further plans to start up a lion breeding programme
in the Dambwa Forest area of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.
