ABSTRACT
The increasing demand of creative industry in Indonesia gets attention and interests
from the young generation. It motivates them to continue their study to a higher level in the
creative fields, art and design. However, the art and design institutions impose the skill tests
as an entrance requirement and it becomes a scourge for the students. Therefore, an additional
education outside school hours which focuses on the field of drawing skill was needed.
Unfortunately, the learning facilities in tutoring agencies generally have been overlooked.
Though it has a psychological impact for the students, especially when it comes to creative
fields. Thus, the good facility condition is required in order to stimulate creativity. On the
other hand, the appreciation of art and design in Surabaya is still lacking. It is still rare to find
the space which is specifically dedicated for creative people to hold showcase for their works
or simply to make a gathering. No wonder if the creative climate in Surabaya is still
underdeveloped.
The design process is done by using several research methods. The first stage, the
author did the data-collecting phase by conducting field studies, such as questionnaires
distribution and some forum group discussions with students and teachers of Studio Artmagic,
comparative study to compare the content owned by competitors, existing study and
literatures study. From the results of the questionnaire, the author identified issues that will be
analyzed thoroughly to determine the appropriate design solutions. The last stage is decisionmaking and then the evaluation process to finally produce the right design.
The Interior Design of Studio Artmagic Drawing Course and Creative Space uses
eclecticsm concept for the space ambience, which means using several styles in one unity that
are integrated with the fun-learning system (edutainment) and represents the company image
as well. Along with this design, the appreciation of the works and creative ideas can be
presented through the facilities and interior elements in each room. So that it can optimally
stimulates the creativity of the young generation and Indonesian people in general, especially
the people of Surabaya, to make the creative climate into the city, who appreciate the works
of local people.
