Typewriter

Introduction
a. A typewriter is a machine that enables alphabetical and numerical
characters to be printed, on by one onto a medium, usually paper.
b. Typewriters are purposely made to print a mans thoughts twice as fast as
he can writes them and with the advantage of the legibility, compactness
and neatness. They are commonly used by writers and secretaries in the
past.
c. Typewriters are usually made of metal with a complex mechanism of
hinges, levers, springs, plungers, hammers, and keys. It operates through
the force of the fingers.
d. A typewriter consists of several parts, namely, key, carriage release lever,
type bars, platen, and ribbon.
Parts Description
a. The key is the part the finger presses in order to create corresponding
printed characters. But not all keys are pressed to produce printed
typescripts like the shift key, shift lock, space bar, backs pace key,
margin release key and tabulator key. Shift key is for writing capital
letters and upper case characters. Shift Lock is for continuous writing
of capital letters and upper case characters. Space bar is for spacing
between words. Back space key is for moving platen back one or more
spaces. Margin release key permits writing outside either margin stops
without adjusting the stops. Tabulator key is used for paragraphing,
indenting, billing and all columnar work.
b. The carriage release lever permits free movement of the platen to
either side.
c. The type bars are the metal arms that move when a key is pressed, so
that the head strikes the ribbon, imprinting the character onto the
paper.
d. The platen or cylinder is hard rubber roller which holds the paper.
e. The ribbon or ink ribbon is an expandable module serving function of
transferring pigment to paper.
Conclusion
a. The typewriter works by simply pressing a key and a lever attached to
it will swing another lever called a type bar up towards the paper. Just
as the type bar is about to hit the page, a ribbon lifts up and
sandwiches itself between the type bar and paper, so the type bar
makes a printed impression as it hits the page. When the key is
released, a spring makes the type bar fall back down to its original
position. At the same time the platen moves one space to the left so
when you hit the next key, it doesnt obliterate the mark youve just
made. The platen continues to advance as you type, until it gets to the
right edge of the paper. Then a bell sounds and you have to press the
carriage release lever. This turns the paper up and moves the platen
back to the start of the next line.

b. Although technology had been more advance than before, some still
uses typewriters which are bulkier and heavier than a laptop or table.
But typewriters are advantageous in some aspects. Typewriters dont
have cords and dont use electricity. Also, its more compact than any
computer and printer combo. The typewriter has been a very useful
invention especially to writers and business managements in the past.
It allowed for information to be recorded quickly and in a way that
would be very legible to all people. It also trained people in an
organization like office secretary to become professional typist. Up
until now, typewriters are used in courts and police station for
permanent documenting purposes.
