Back to School Night/Parent Meetings


Back to School Night is, Thursday, August 6th, from
5:30-7:00. This is a great opportunity to meet your child's
teachers and learn about the curriculum and classroom
expectations. Please remember to bring a copy of your child's
schedule. Our 6th grade camp informational meeting will be
held 5:00-5:30 in the gym. Our 7th and 8th grade Math
orientation meeting will be held from 5:00-5:30 in the AMS
Theater. Also, our AMS GATE meeting will be held from 7:007:30pm in the AMS Theater.
On Wednesday your student will be given a Back to School Night
sheet in Advisory. It consists of a helpful map and schedule sheet
for your child to complete. A copy is also available on the AMS
website. Feel free to print and ask your child to fill in their
schedule.

#icanhelpshirts
Students can order a #icanhelp shirt to support the message
from our awesome assembly last Friday! Shirts can be worn on
Wednesdays for spirit day! Orders will be accepted at the student
office window August 3-7 before and after school. Show your
dedication to deleting negativity online and in social media! Orders
will take about two weeks to arrive and are expected at the end of

Attendance Education Code

Please make sure to review the student handbook with your


child. There is important information regarding school
safety, strategies for academic success, school rules and
policies. The handbook requires a student and parent
signature and should be returned to your student's advisory
teacher. The handbook is located in your student's planner,
if you do not have a planner, please ask your advisory
teacher for a copy of the handbook or go to our
website under the student handbook tab.

Safety First
Please help make student drop-off and pick-up safe! We realize
traffic is a concern, please help us by not leaving your car
unattended, parking in a red zone, encouraging your student to
walk thru moving traffic, and please be courteous. We understand
traffic jams occur, patience is very much appreciated.

Please remember all middle students riding skateboards,


scooters, and bikes to and from school must wear a safety helmet,
it's the law. Also, Students are not allowed to ride
skateboards/scooters/bikes on campus. Any student caught
riding on campus may have their equipment taken away and release
to parents. Students may store their skateboard/scooter in their
1st period class. Bikes should be locked in the bike racks.

Calling All Yellow Jacket Artists!


If you are interested in having your art work displayed in the
Brentwood Art, Wine, and Jazz Festival at the Street of
Brentwood the weekend of August 29 & 30th, please fill out an
entry form and turn in your art work to Mrs. Thornhill in room 2
or 3 by August 14th. Entry Forms are in the student office.
Email tthornhill@brentwood.k12.ca.us with any questions.

Dress Code
AMS Dress Code Please remember to send your child to
school ready for the learning environment and dressed
appropriately. Slippers, pajamas, blankets, loose fitting
shirts exposing mid-section, back-side or undergarments,
are not appropriate school clothing and must be left at
home. The AMS administration reserves the right to
determine the appropriateness of the student attire.
Students wearing inappropriate clothing will be required to
change. Please refer to the student handbook or AMS
website for picture samples and do not represent all dress
code violations.

CYBER-BULLYING
E.C. 234.1 No student or group of students shall,
through physical, written, verbal, or other means,
harass, sexually harass, threaten, intimidate, cyberbully,
cause bodily injury to, or commit hate violence against any
other student or school personnel. Cyberbullying includes
the transmission of harassing communications, direct
threats, or other harmful texts, sounds, or images on the
Internet, social media, or other
technologies using a telephone, computer, or any wireless
communication device. Cyberbullying also includes breaking
into another person's electronic account and assuming that
person's identity in order to damage that person's
reputation.

Spirit Days:
This Friday is our first Black and Gold Spirit day! Wear
your class shirt or any black and yellow! Don't have a class
shirt? They are $15. We still have some available from walk
thru in room 3 or you can order one! Order forms are
available in the student office. Don't wait, you have until

Wednesday August 12th will be the Adams Band Boosters first
dine out of the year. Please join us at the Streets of Brentwood

Snack Hut Thursdays:


The snack hut is open this Thursday and every Thursday! We
have new items!! Everything is $2.00 except lollipops, which are
.50 cents. Come by after school to room 3 and check it out!

Friday School Detention


At AMS student are required to move from class to class
daily. It is expected that all students arrive to every class
on time. Tardies create a disruption to the classroom and to
our focus on academic success. Students who earn 3 or
more tardies per week will receive Friday School Detention.

Friday School Detention is every Friday From 2.:453:45. Students and their parents are responsible for their
own transportation home. Students will receive notification
of their detention in their advisory class 48 hours in
advance. Students should bring something to work on
during detention, this may include homework or a book to
read but electronics and food are strictly prohibited.
Failure to attend detention may lead to further
consequences from site administration.

Sign up to receive text or email reminders about school events and
deadlines! If you signed up last year, you need to sign up again to
be a part of the 2015-2016 group. Click here for more

School Site Council Member Needed


If you are interested in running for a position on School Site

before school. ASB students will


be stationed at the pick-up loop
starting at 6:45am for you to
sign in. If you walk, ride your
bike, scooter, or skate to school
you could win a gift card to
Willy's! Plus, Willy's has new
shirts and if you buy a bagel and
smoothie, you get your shirt for
free! If you participate in both
Walk to School Wednesdays, you
will be invited to the Menchies
party at the end of the quarter!

Helmets!!
In accordance with California
Vehicle Code 21212 (A) All
students under the age of 18
riding scooters, long boards,
bicycles, roller blades to school
must wear a certified helmet
with chin strap. Please help keep
our students safe by insisting
your child wear a helmet and
obey traffic laws as they come
to and from school. Violators
may be cited.
Also,students are not allowed to
ride skateboards/scooters/bikes
on campus. Any student caught
riding on campus may have their

store their skateboard/scooter
in their 1st period class. Bikes

Council, please submit an application and a one paragraph


description of the reasons you would like to represent the J.
Douglas Adams Middle School community. Applications can be
picked up in the main office or on the website under Parent and
Resources tab and should be returned by September 2, 2015.
