A mobile app to easily dispose of e-waste

1. Adverse circumstance the threats posed by improper disposal of e waste.
Need The need to safely dispose e waste. People are becoming conscious
about the hazards caused to the environment because of human activities.
Moreover, the amount of gadgets used by families is increasing at a phenomenal
rate. In such a situation, it becomes imperative for us as humans to do our bit to
cause minimal damage to the environment
Amount of E-waste generated in U.S represents 2% of trash in landfills but this
amount contributes to around 70 percent of toxic waste. (M Garg, 2010)
2. What products are being displaced or underutilized because of
adversity?
According to UN In 2013 the total e-waste production was 54 million tons and
this is growing by 4 percent each year. Even though recycling of e waste is on
the rise but still people in most of the countries dont know how to discard e
waste and most of the e-waste goes into the normal dump yard. So in this case
we see a large amount of underutilization of e-waste which can be used to
generate variety of electronic products thereby helping the environment as well.
Even though we have technology to recycle e-waste we are underutilizing it as
only 12.5% is recycled
3. A way to use resources from Que 2
We would like to come up with an application which would help people in finding
and contacting nearby scrap dealers who would come to our doorstep and collect
the electronic waste we would like to dispose of. They would also pay us a
nominal fee for the same. There is a severe need for this kind of service since
most people do not even know what to do with electronic waste and either end
up hoarding it at home for years on end or throw is out in the trash which is
again a problem for disposal and recycling. Our method ensures a responsible
way of disposing of e-waste, helping the environment in the process.
The application will be a convenient way to connect with scrap dealers who will
have tie-ups with recycling agencies. This will ensure that people have a safe and
responsible outlet for disposing of e-waste and also make some money in the
process
4. Minimum change customer need to adopt
Adoption of any product or service is the key to the success of any business. With
the advancement of technology we have no doubt that mobile service and
mobile technology will play a big part in every walk of life. The rise in SMEs and
upper middle class in India is the reason we see an increase in use of
technological applications. Our business plan is to reach out to the public using a
mobile application through which we can provide our service of disposing e-

waste in an eco-friendly manner. This will be offered completely free. With the
increase in awareness and participation for eco-friendly environments we see a
need for an avenue to dispose of electronic goods. At a click of a button our
company collects the items to be disposed at your door step in return for a small
amount of money. This small monetary value will also be an added incentive.
5. Repetition of Success in additional market
Yes. This concept can be taken ahead and implemented with new customers and
new products as well. This is because the value proposition of this app is
collecting e waste which includes an array of items such as used laptops and
phones.
Que 2. Asses the attractiveness of this opportunity
Below are the reasons that makes this opportunity/service lucrative: Around 35 million tonnes of e-wastes, all round the world are generated every
year (Schwarzer et al., 2005).

Currently growth of e-wastes are increasing at a rate of 4% annually

(Deng et al., 2006).
Advantages for the Customer
o E-Wastes are disposed properly as every individual is getting
conscious about the nature and hazard of not disposing properly.
o Electronic Wastes which is worth of absolutely zero value will be
able to fetch a descent price.
Benefits for Suppliers/Manufactures (Buyers of E-Wastes)
o Getting huge quantities from a single source.
o Better forecast and minimal wastage or avoiding excess production.
Benefits for the Company
o Huge customer base.
o Minimal harm to nature and environment
