EU directive: Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE):
2007-2019. Goal: sharing of environmental spatial information among public sector
organisations. Request: data availability, metadata access, standards, distributed storage.

European Commission's Open Data Strategy (e.g. 2011): cover all the information that public

bodies produce, collect or pay for, e.g. geographical information, statistics, weather data, data
from publicly funded research projects, and digitised books from libraries.

Many new data portals: GEOSS, Copernicus, Climate Services, EU-projects, Public Agencies
