Introduction
Energy Saving.
Recuperator heat recovery units offer
various possibilities for energy saving
and an alternative for reducing energy
costs and atmospheric pollution.
Characteristics.
Heat-exchangers are exchangers that
enable heat to be transferred between
the input and the output air-flows based
on the difference in temperature.
Recuperator offer two series of static
plate exchangers (Series B and F) and
a rotary exchanger series (Series T),
whose characteristics meet the requirements of both the industrial and the
non-industrial markets.
Condensation.
Plate-type exchangers do not allow for
the passage of humidity from one flow
to another, but can transfer part of the
latent heat contained in the wet
exhaust air-flow; this happens
especially when external temperatures
are very low, so that the supply air
cools the wet exhaust below its dew
point and condensation is formed.
Quality
It is Recuperator's constant aim to
maintain the highest standards of
quality. Stated performance figures are
certified by tests carried out in
accordance with Eurovent rules by
independent organizations such as
Technikum of Lucerne (Switzerland)
and Istituto Ricerche e Collaudi Masini
of Rho (Milan).
The quality and performance of
Recuperator products are guaranteed
by a well-equipped research laboratory
and an ASHRAE wind-tunnel, where
tests are conducted periodically on
product lines.

Differential Pressure
B Aluminium
For all the models in Series B the maximum differential pressure between supply and exhaust flow rate is 1000 Pa for plate
spacing C, and 1500 Pa for plate spacings M and L.

Special Applications
The air-flow direction is of no real importance. However, it is recommended that the exhaust air pass through the heatexchanger from the top towards the bottom in cases in which the formation of condensation is to be expected.
Some examples of the behaviour of the two air-flows, using a single heat-exchanger.
In special cases, it is possible to use several heat-exchangers to overcome inconveniences such as: lack of space, a major
difference between the two flows, etc. The drawings show a few examples.

Preliminary Inspection.
Before removing the packaging it is
advisable to check that the heatexchanger has not been damaged in
transit; careful visual checking should
be enough to ensure that the
packaging is in good condition. It
should not be removed until the time
comes to connect the heat-exchanger
to the air-ducts or install it in the airtreatment units, thus avoiding any
soiling or damage of any kind.
When starting up the plant, care should
be taken to avoid "water hammering"
which could cause a higher differential
Installation.
The heat-exchanger may be installed in
air-ducts, or else inside an air-handling
unit. It is important that the plates
should be set vertically, to facilitate the
draining of condensation. In the airhandling units, the heat recovery unit is
lodged on proper slides and the seals
on supports (see Fig. 1), made easier
by the use of rubber weather bands.

Selection
Recuperator supplies its customers with
the REX program (Recuperator
Exchangers). This enables customers
to select the best heat-exchanger, since
it contains a price-list and all the
necessary technical information.
23
24
Selection
The tables in Series B provide some basic factors for rapid selection.
Once the air volumes are known, it is possible to select the model suitable for the customer's requirements, including
dimensions, pressure drop, and efficiency.
The values given refer to the following conditions:
- Air renewal = exhaust air
- Input temperature of air renewal = 5C
- Temperature of exhaust air = 22C with 50% relative humidity
- Pressure drop on the exhaust side.
For an exact technical and cost evaluation, Recuperator recommends using its computer programs.

: the numbers in red indicate plant with approximately 50% efficiency. As regards the columns showing pressure drop,
the values on the left and those shown in red represent efficiency exceeding 50, while those on the right are below 50.
