SUMMARY
This course undertakes a study on the function of Human Resources as a facilitative service to Management.
Specifically, the course provides a strong foundation regarding the various processes involving Human Resource
Management namely, recruitment, selection, training, motivation, retention, and the legal environment. Moreover,
this course will enable students to see the link between people and business strategy.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course, students are expected to:

learn the basic functions of human resource management.


develop their ability to interrelate these functions for the efficient utilization of manpower resources.
apply the principles and theories learned through simulated exercises.
display the ability to work with a team in delivering outputs on several HR topics.
acquire the skills needed to detect human resource problems and prescribe feasible solutions.

ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION (10%):


Attendance will be regularly checked. As per UP rule, Three (3) instances of tardiness is equivalent to one (1)
absence and a student who accumulates more than three (3) absences will receive a failing mark.
The students are EXPECTED to come to class prepared. Should the instructor notice unpreparedness, surprise
quizzes should be deemed in order.
PRESENTATION (10%):
The students should form a group comprised of three (3) members and will present a particular chapter assigned
in the book. All presentations should be in PowerPoint, Flash, Corel, etc.
As business majors, the group is expected to conduct the report in English, be able to maintain the enthusiasm of
their classmates and relate the topics to Philippine setting. Likewise, students are encouraged to be creative in
delivering this task. Cases are very much welcome should the group wish to use it as a method to emphasize
concepts and theories from the chapter(s) assigned.

GROUP ACTIVITIES (10%):


Several activities will be conducted throughout the course of the semester. The group assigned on the related topic
will be tasked to assist the instructor in giving simulated exercises to the rest of the class.
QUIZZES (10%):
The instructor may or may not announce quizzes. Students are thus expected to come prepared to class.
MIDTERM & FINAL EXAM (20% each):
A combination of the following types of exam: multiple choice, matching type, modified true or false, identification,
and essay. Final Exam may or may not be comprehensive should the instructor gauge that the objectives of the Midterm Exam was not met.
PROJECT (20%):
Human Resource (HR) Analysis
Each group is tasked to conduct a comprehensive analysis of a pre-approved company of their choice regarding the
various HR processes of job analysis, recruitment, training, appraisal, or compensation.

*** Since majority of the requirements stated above are group works, EVERYONE is EXPECTED to participate
and work diligently with their respective teams. However, should there be any members who the remaining team
members feel did not work as much as they did in delivering what was required, all they need to do is not include
the person(s) name at the front page of the project/presentation. FREE RIDERS WILL NOT BE IN ANY WAY
TOLERATED IN THIS CLASS.
