Research philosophy .

Philosophy of research can be said to be the guiding force behind a research study and
defines the broad framework that provides a direction to how the study will be conducted. A study can adopt
different philosophical alternatives such as the realist pragmatic or positivist depending upon howpreferences
of the researcher and to some extent on the nature and objectives of the study. Positivist philosophy finds
resemblance with the natural sciences as it places significance on objectivity element and believes that the
researcher should be independent and should adopt an objective outlook. Realism presumes that social values
background of the researcher and his own perspectives have a significant influence on how the findings are
placed and so such a philosophy is pre dominant in studies that involve human subject. Research approach the
approach of the study can either be deductive if ve study focuses on currently available theories and models to
develop hypothesis

And the research process them goes on to test them during the research. Thus it moves from theories to
empirical testing of those theories. Such an approach can be considered appropriate in situations when the
existing literature is rich and the study aims to validate those theories. Contrary to this inductive approach
begins with empirical methods looking to find and develop something new that will add to the existing theories

Limitations of the study. The study on account of its restrictive scope suffers from certain limitations that offer
an avenue for further research. One of the limitations of the study relates to the study being limited to luxury

has also resulted in increased confidence and development of other skills. On reflection i find the exercise to
be of criticalsignificance as it has helped me develop strong analytical skills and has helped in strengthen my
time management abilities. The enormity of the task resulted in several instances where my decision making
skilp were put to test and i emerged a strong person at the end of it. The whole exercise began with the choice
of the topic of the dissertation and this i believe was the most testing phase as had to spend considerable time
making a choice of the topic. I wanted to ensure that the topic of the dissertation was related to something that i
had interest in and authe ran time there was significant literature available on it.

After considerable deliberations and discussions i was able to finalize the topic related to luxury brand cars and
a survey of literature on human motivations in relation to luxury products i found that the literature talked about
motivations that were quite different from what was available in text books and this generated my interests.
This was something that was new for me and offered an opportunity to gain insights about something known
yet novel. I prepared my dissertation proposal with great care in accordance with the guidelines and was
motivated by the encouraging words and appreciation from my dissertation supervisor. Once the proposal was
submitted i began the process by researching about the existing studies that had been undertaken and this
was extremely helpful as it have direction and influenced the future course off the research study. There were
some areas that i had to be careful about and one such area was related to referencing and citation. S
perfected this skill

As i progressed with my dissertation. Once i completed my literature review the nerves began settle and i
gained confidence as i was almost half done with my work. Writing the research methodology was a bit difficult
part as it desired knowledge of some of the typical research related terminology but none the less have
opportunity to learn some new things. Having completed the methodology past of the dissertation the next
issue was collecting the data which took some time. Once i had completed the process of collecting the data
the next step was to analyze the data. This was a tedious exercise and involved use of microsoft excel for

presentation and analysis of the information that had been collected from the respondents. On hindsight i feel
that i was able to make effective and efficient use of the available time and thus was able to improve upon my
time management skills to a great extent. I was able to tv away my habit of procrastination and could prioritize
activities
