2. GLOBAL TRADE - KEY FINDINGS

India took the second spot in the global ferro-manganese trade. In 2014, India
exported 223 thousand tonnes of ferro-manganese totaling 227 USD, a robust
53% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Iran, where it
supplied 42.6% of its total ferro-manganese exports in value terms, accounting
for 97.0% of Irans total imports.
From 2007 to 2014, India was a net exporter of ferro-manganese. Over this
period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. In physical
terms, this difference was even more pronounced.
South Africa and the Netherlands were among the other main global suppliers
of ferro-manganese in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007
to 2014 were Poland (+22.0% per year) and India (+12.1% per year). With
this sustained growth, India was able to significantly strengthen its position in
the global export structure.
In 2014, Indias top 5 trading partners were Iran, the United Arab Emirates,
Japan, Indonesia and Pakistan, with a combined 73.5% share of Indias ferromanganese

exports.

The

share

of

Iran

increased

significantly

(+39.8

percentage points), while the share of Italy illustrated negative dynamics (12.2 percentage points).
