Personality

You can become very successful even in adverse conditions. Whereas,

there are people who have all the ideal conditions from the start, yet
they have not been successful.
When we look around us we find that there is abundant money in the
banks. Knowledge is available in plenty in the form of books. Schools
also provide knowledge through good teachers. There are plenty of
opportunities provided in this free world. There is no dearth of support
and facilities in this world.
Power and sophistication are easily attainable. The prime reason that
keeps us from taking full advantage of opportunities is laxity and
neglect. They are contagious. We should examine our self and prevent
this inflection from spreading in our system. Neglect, if not checked
early can cause a complete failure over a period.
When we do not do the things we know, we should, it makes us guilty.
The guilt eats up on our confidence. As a result, it affects our activity.
That causes a blow to the results. When that happens, we become
negative in our outlook. This again diminishes our self-confidence.
Thus, it is a vicious cycle.
A person should constantly work on self. This will help him to evolve as
a human being. Abilities can be turn to capabilities. Working on self
ensures not only success but also happiness.
We have a shining example of Dr. Abdul Kalam who is the son of a
fisherman. He went on to become the most successful President of
India. We have one more example of Mr. Dhirubhai Ambani. He started
by working at petrol pump and later built an empire.
What this people never did was complain about obstacles. They never
wasted their energy on complaining. They focused their energy on
their vision. There are people persistently complain in spite of having
plenty of facilities. They should consider the above two examples.
Dr. Abdul Kalam had the option of working with NASA, instead he stood
to stay back in India & contribute to the nation.
Most people generally concentrate and work on improving that what is
outside them. They fail to understand that real work has to be done on
things inside of them. Self-awareness is the key. Ask yourself what you
want.

It is possible to be powerful and all that you would ever want is very
much within your reach. You need to work in the right direction. Do not
neglect yourself. Whatever is outside of you gets immediate attention
when there is a breakdown, be it your car, T.V, computer etc. However
when our confidence and motivation need a boost, we become lax.
Therefore, it leads to a breakdown and you do not experience joy.
Do not fall in the vicious cycle of guilt. When people neglect work,
which should be done they feel guilty. The guilt takes away the
confidence to act and without action they dont get results. Because of
this entire guilt trap, we begin to feel low and weak but there is a way
out. Start working on yourself and develop your personality!
Group discussion
There are many misconceptions regarding group discussion. Due to
some myths, many deserving candidates are not able to perform well
at this stage. It is no use blaming the environment or doubting the
validity of this tool, because the fact is everyone has to face group
discussions at some stage, climbing the corporate ladder. You need to
be good at them to achieve your desired goals.
A group discussion is a normal conversation among a group of
individuals, since the conversation is related to a particular topic,
hence the word discussion. A group usually comprises eight to twelve
participants who engage in a discussion far approximately 15-20
minutes. The moderator or judge for GDs assesses participants based
on their contribution both as an individual as well as a team player.
Talking about your performance as an individual, remember that what
you speak is more important than how much you speak. Quality
counts, not quantity. You need to excel in content as well as
presentation.
Moving on to performance as a team player you should exhibit
leadership skills. Project yourself as an extrovert and co-operative.
Connect with and build a rapport with the other members of the group.
The essential requirements for success in a group discussion are
knowledge, listening skills, presentation, calm composure,
assertiveness, co-operation, analytical thinking accommodative and
encouraging.
With these guidelines, you can start preparing yourself for a Group
Discussion.

Nearly everyday we explain and judge the personalities of the people

around us. Whether we comprehend it or, not these every day thoughts
on how and why people act as they do is alike to what personality
psychologists perform.
Author: George Anto
While there are many different theories of personality, the first step is
to understand exactly what is meant by the term personality. A brief
definition would be that personality is made up of the characteristic
patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that make a person
unique. In addition to this, personality arises from within the individual
and remains consistent throughout life.
A few of the main personality traits taken into account:
Stability - There is usually a familiar order and promptness to
behaviors. People act in the similar ways in different situations.
Psychological and physiological - Personality is a psychological
construct, but study put forward that it is as well influenced by
biological procedure and requirements.
Impact behaviors and actions - character does not just influence how
we move about and react in our surroundings; it also causes us to do
something in certain ways.
Several expressions - qualities is put on view in more than just actions.
It can as well be seen in out judgment, outlook, close relationships, and
other societal interactions.
Theories of Personality
There are so many different theories on the subject of how
personalities develop. Special schools of thought in psychology
influence many of these theories. A few of these major perspectives on
personality comprises of:

Type theories are the early point of view on personality. These theories
recommended that there are a limited number of "personality types"
which are connected to biological influences.
Trait theories observed personality as the outcome of inner character
that is hereditarily based.
Psychodynamic theories of personality are to a great deal influence by
the effort of Sigmund Freud, and give emphasis to the influence of the
unconscious on personality.
Behavioral theories put forward that personality is a outcome of
communication between the person and his surroundings. Behavioral
theorists study clear and considerable behaviors, rejecting theories
that take personal thoughts and belief into account. Behavioral
theorists take account of B. F. Skinner and John Watson.
Conversation for shy people
There are conversation starters for shy people that can really get
people talking and help you feel more comfortable in your own skin.
After you read this article, I'm confident you'll be able to teach other
timid people a lesson or two on the art of conversation! You'll be able
to waltz into any event, bar, restaurant or situation for that given
matter and get people talking. To discover some conversation starters
for shy people, read on!
1) Things You Have In Common
what is the one thing that you and that other person sitting beside you
have in common? Do you have common friends, or a shared interest in
movies?
If you know what you two have in common, starting a conversation will
be easy as pie. Are you all here for a charity event? Talk about the
cause and the benefits the event will bring. If you have just met, talk
about the place where you both are. Is the food good? Is the music
great? These are all wonderful conversation starters for shy people.
2) Asking Other People About Themselves
Generally, a person likes to talk about himself or herself. So by asking
questions like Where did you go to school or What kind of movie do

you like? you are capturing their interest; and at the same time,
you're keeping yourself away from the center of attention.
Just make sure you listen to every word they say, because appearing
distracted may offend the other party.
3) Newsmakers and Breakers
One of the great conversation starters for shy people is current news.
What's the current trend? What's happening in the business world? Any
new scientific discoveries? Talk about news that affect both of you and
start from there.
One thing you should avoid raising in a conversation is anything that
has to do with religion, politics, legal system, etc. These topics are
usually very sensitive and you don't really want to take a dip in that
pool on your first meeting. Besides, talking about topics like these
make arguments more likely to happen than not. You may feel strongly
about a certain religion, and the other person may also have a strong
yet opposite point of view regarding the issue. In these cases, it's
probably best to just stick with light topics that won't get you into
trouble.
Since we're talking about news here, you'll be less focused on how shy
you are and more into the actual conversation. You might not even
realize how many hours you have been talking about a particular issue.
These are just some of the possible conversation starters for shy
people. Once you've tried some of them on actual experiences, you'll
feel more confident at exploring other topics of interest.
First Impression
Dress For Success
I have a friend who refused on principle to belief that the way people
judged him was heavily influence by what he was wearing. I challenged
him to test the theory for himself and if you have any doubts I issue
you with the same challenge.
I suggested that he select two different establishments that sold luxury
cars. He was to go into one dressed in his worst clothes and into the
other dressed in his best suit. He was to act the same in each and
simply stroll around looking at the cars. His real task was to note how

he was treated in each case.

What do you think happened? When he was wearing his best suit the
salesman couldn't get to him quick enough. He was offered coffee and
treated with respect. The salesman was doing everything possible to
interest him in buying a car.
When he was dressed in his old clothes nobody spoke to him at all. The
salesmen glanced in his direction and then went back to what they
were doing.
If you want to be taken seriously in life learn to dress for success!
The Body Language of Confidence
On the conscious level we communicate with through our language but
at the subconscious level much of our communicating is via our body
language. Psychologists have discovered that if the words and the
body language don't match each other then the message from the
body language takes precedence over that of the spoken language.
When you are meeting a person for the first time this body language is
doubly important. Learn to walk like a successful person, stand like a
successful person and sit like a successful person. It all contributes to
how you are perceived in those first ten seconds.
Verbal Communication
The verbal communication that is most important in regards to the
initial impression is the greeting. What you say when you greet a
person for the first time will help them decide whether or not you are a
person that they should respect or not.
It is well worth your time to think about the best way you should greet
a person according to the circumstances of the meeting. If you are
going to practice anything in verbal communication then practice
greetings.
Non Verbal Communication
Verbal communication refers to what you say and non verbal
communication to how you say it. As with body language if the verbal
and non verbal are in contradiction it is the non verbal message that
makes the lasting impression.
If you don't already have it then develop a confident, self assured,

friendly tone to your voice; the tone of a leader. After all, most of the
great leaders throughout history have inspired their followers through
the inspirational, charismatic way that they speak.
Mental Rehearsal
Because you only have 10 seconds to make that first impression you
can't leave it up to chance. Mentally practice meeting people and
making a good impression. This will make it clear to your subconscious
mind exactly what you expect to achieve in those initial moments and
then your subconscious will work to bring all the body language and
non verbal aspects into line with your objectives.
Those first 10 seconds can make the difference between building a
successful, mutually rewarding business or personal relationship or
simply having a casual one off meeting. It is well worth perfecting the
art of making a good first impression.
