Indru Netru Naalai A slick flick with logic

The best part about watching a low budget movie is that you enter the movie hall with the
least expectations and an almost negligible fetish for the protagonist. The blossom of such
movies is vivid despite the not so called star cast and big budgets. Tamil Cinema is an
exemplary for creating an appetite of the audience for the small budget movies. I was drawn
to the small segment movie experience without reluctance from the time I watched Pizza.
Despite all this I did enter the movie hall screening Indru Netru Naalai with almost no
expectations as always. The movie directed by a debutant R.Ravi kumar doesnt show any
trails of amateurish filmmaking. Ravi Kumar was a part of the Soodhu Kavvum crew an
assistant to Nallan Kumarasamy another soaring movie in the small budget arena.
The direction was a slick one neatly fit into the prodigious genre of Sci-fi comedy a rarity in
cinema. To build a sci-fi movie with comedy intertwining in the plot requires a certain
amount of ingenious thinking. I liked this combination even more in this movie because there
wasnt a single comedy scene that alluded the plot. To appreciate it precisely it was like both
the genres were like two hands needed for a clap ( the clap being the plot). .
The movie opens with the year 2065 where a scientist ( cameo by Arya) discovers the last
puzzle of a time travel machine and is ready for the test run. Eureka! the machine disappears
and we are brought back to the year 2015. The story takes an interesting turn of events from
this point of the movie which is like few minutes into the movie. Then goes the tale of two
friends and a quirky scientist who discover the machine by accident and with this I mean
literally- a car accident. After this starts the fun and riveting ride of the logic and mechanics
of time travel.
The protagonist is a youth depressed with the vanity of the routine work life. He aspires to
become an entrepreneur and tries his hand at several ideas but none of them fetches him a
loan for its finance. The role played by Vishnu Vardhan is quiet neat and comfortable in the
role of Elango. His sidekick being his friend Puliveti Arumugam played by the upcoming
subtle comedian Karunakaran. He slides into the role perfectly without over playing the
comedy. His quirky owlish eye expressions tickle our funny bones throughout the movie. The
love interest of Elango is played by actress Mia George as Anu. She plays a pivotal part in
the movie along with actor Jayaprakash as her Father. The quirky Scientist also keeps us in a
lighter vein played very easily by actor k.kumaran like a scientific chatterbox throughout his
appearance. The role of the villain is played quiet intimidatingly by Ravi Shanker.
Gladly the movie is not bogged down by irrelevant songs and hence the plot maintains its
crispness and speed with consistency. The way the protagonist and his friend decide to use
the time machine as a means of business is a hilarious one with a plenty rib ticklers. The
climax could have been a little more spine chilling and pacey. Nevertheless the movie didnt
bore me a second throughout the duration.
Its a plausible plot considering the trivialities too which makes it a sensible Tamil movie I
ever watched. Most Tamil movies are incomplete without a message and this message is a
really powerful one. I was touched by the way it was used in the movie. A movie worth
investing !
