Course Objectives Students are expected to have a clear understanding of the ideas of
(Learning Outcomes): Precalculus as a solid foundation for subsequent courses in
mathematics and other disciplines as well as for direct application
to real life situations.
The content of the entire course covers topics from basic
mathematics and develop them using practical and theoretical tools,
building applications and making a strong support for Calculus
classes.
A student passing MATH1508 Precalculus course will be able to
work with the concepts of functions (functions in general,
exponential and logarithmic functions, polynomial and rational
functions, trigonometric functions, etc), to solve a system of linear
and non-linear equations and inequalities, to make basic operations
with matrices, to apply mathematical induction method, to work
with trigonometric functions and their properties, and to apply in
problems related to other branches of Science: Calculus, Algebra,
Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Engineering, Statistics,
etc.
Course Activities/Assignments: You will find all work on http://www.aleks.com. You MUST
purchase the code with e-book via the internet as soon as possible.
When you log onto ALEKS you will go through a tutorial, then you
will see the following message.
Attendance Policy: Students must work on ALEKs a minimum of 8 hours per week.
Failure to work on ALEKS 8 hours per week may result in
being dropped from the course. Students are encouraged to
complete 25 topics per week in order to complete this course
successfully.
Academic Integrity Policy: Cheating on a Test or Quiz must be dealt with in accordance with
University regulations. This means automatic referral to and

course.
Students must work on ALEKS a minimum of 8 hours per week. If
you do not maintain 8 hours per week you may be dropped from
this course.
The Review Topics must be completed by midnight September 7.
You must fill in all topics up to the dotted white lines shown in the
figure to the left. Your grade for the Review Topics will be
determined by the amount of work you have completed on ALEKS
by midnight on September 7.
Trigonometry Objective
Most of you have not worked with ALEKS, so you will click on I have never used ALEKS
If you have used ALEKS before you will still have to purchase a new code.
Next you will click on Purchase an access code from the box below
Purchasing the 18 Weeks (1 semester) code (US $87.00), it comes with an e-text.
Written instruction
[To register with ALEKS and obtain a student account, begin by clicking on the link
marked "SIGN UP NOW" in the upper left-hand corner of the ALEKS home page. The
next page will offer you a choice of registering for ALEKS use in a class or registering to
use ALEKS independently. Please be sure that you choose the correct one.
Using ALEKS with a class. If you are using ALEKS as part of the course requirements
for a class in any educational institution, or if you have a teacher or instructor who is
involved in your use of ALEKS, you must use the LEFT-HAND option. To do this you
must have a 10-character course code provided by your teacher, instructor, or
institution. The 10-character course code places you in the correct class for your
teacher, instructor or institution. If you do not have the 10-character course code, obtain
it from your instructor first before proceeding to register with ALEKS.
Using ALEKS on your own. If you are using ALEKS independently, just to further your
learning or to support your work in a class but without any involvement by the teacher or
instructor, use the RIGHT-HAND option. To do this you must have credit card
information to enter in the system. The account that you create in this way will be
private, and cannot be moved or enrolled in any school, college, or university account,
or viewed by any instructor.]
After this point, you will be prompted for other information as part of the registration
process. In some cases, you may need to wait for authorization by your instructor (class
use only). When your registration is complete, you will be given your ALEKS Login
Name and Password. Your Password can be changed now or at any later time, if you
wish to do so. Please keep records of your ALEKS Login Name and Password, as you
will need them to access your ALEKS account.
