ONEOFKingston'sfinestrestaurants,thePalmCourtintheHiltonKingston
Hotel,depriveditsclienteleoftheirfinecuisineandfivestarserviceforawhole
weekend,astheyclosedforrenovation.ThereopeningwasTuesdayevening,
andofcourse,intruePalmCourtstyle,theysentoutintricatelycrafted
invitationsthatpromisedaneveningoffinedining.Thenightwasexpectedto
beoneofhighcalibreserviceandculinarycreativity.Needlesstosay,itwas.
At7:00p.m.thegueststrickledin,andallwereanxioustoenjoythedelightsthat
awaitedthembutwhymakehaste?Thefinerthingsinlifecomeonlywithpatience
andsotheywaited.Theywaitedbythepoolsidetothemusicofthementoband
JamesCarltonandwiththedrinkoftheirchoiceinhand.Ohwhatsweettorture!Their
anxietywassoonsoothedastheinvitationwasmadetoheaduptothemezzanine
levelofthelobby,wherethePalmCourtislocated.Theretheyfoundnewlylaid
carpetingandenhanceddcor,thatonlyaddedtothealreadyelegantambienceof
therestaurant.
PERSONALISEDNAMEPLATES
Hostsandhostessesseatedeachguestatpredesignatedplacesbearing
personalisednameplates.ThemanagingdirectoroftheHiltonKingston,Frank
Rosheuvelle,spokebrieflybeforethediningbegan.Hetoldastoryofhisworldwide
searchfortheperfectsteakandaftertravellingallovertheglobe,hefinallyfound
whathethoughttobethebeststeakheeverhaditwasoftheBlackAngusbeef.
Asamatteroffact,theessenceofthePalmCourt'ssignaturedishistheBlack
Angusbeef:twomedallionsofBlackAngustenderloinservedwithgratindauphinoise
andseasonalvegetables.Naturally,thatwasthemaincoursefortheevening.
Needlesstosay,eachcoursewasabsolutelyexoticandquiteenjoyable.
MADEGOODONPROMISE
ThePalmCourtmadegoodonitspromiseofafinediningexperience.The
entertainmentalsoprovedtobeworldclassanddelightfullycharming.DavidHayle,a
verytalentedguitarist,pleasedtheear,ashestrummedoutcontemporaryclassics
likeLouisArmstrong'sWonderfulWorld.Hewontheheartsofmanyasheplayed
EmotionsbytheBeeGeesandNeilDiamond'sclassic,SongSungBlueandof
coursetheguestscouldnotresistsingingalonginbetweenmouthfuls.
Afterthefinalcoursearichandcreamydarkchocolatemoussetoppedwith
whippedcreampresidentoftheChainedesRottisseurs,KermitTucker,
