1 Introduction
Training and development is the process by which the skills and knowledge of the trainee being
improved so that he/ she can contribute better to achieve the organizational objectives. Training
and development is an emerging sector in the recent times due to the rapid change in working
environment.
For my study I have chosen Eastern Mattresses Pvt. Ltd, Puthuperiyaram, Thodupuzha, because
the training programs given to the employees is very good which help them to do their daily
tasks with efficiency.
During the course of the study, I learned about the training offered to the employees of the the
company

1.2 Statement of the problem

The study focuses on the effectiveness of training and development at Eastern Mattresses Pvt.
Ltd, Puthuperiyaram, Thodupuzha. Many organizations are giving importance in the field of
training and development. There are many factors in that organization that favour training and
development in those organisations.
The study focused on how the training program is given to employees and how it helps them in
developing their skills and knowledge. A detailed survey has been conducted among the
employees to study the effectiveness of training and development program given to them.

To explore whether the employees are satisfied with their current training methods.
To make suggestions to improve the effectiveness of training.
To examine whether training has helped the employees to improve performance.

1.4 Scope of the study

The study is concerned with the employees of the Eastern Mattresses Pvt. Ltd, Puthuperiyaram,
Thodupuzha with a special focus on the present conditions of training programs in this
organization so as to identify the expectations of the employees as well as the willingness of the
employees to benefit from training programmes.

1.5 Contribution of my study to the Organisation

By my study the organization people where able to understand more about the training and
development program they offer to their employees.
Their lack of knowledge about the training program was removed.
Sort to bridge the gap between what is known and unknown
Enhance training program
Plan their training plan further with greater efficiency.

1.6Limitations of my Study

The sample size selected is restricted to Eastern Mattresses Pvt. Ltd.

The study is based on the data collected from employees through questionnaire and some

employees might not have taken the questionnaire seriously.

Time constraint made it possible to gather more information.
The study was conducted during the working hours, when the employees were
concentrating on their work and so their opinion may be biased.

management of the conglomerate.

1.6.2 Eastern Mattresses

The birth of Eastern Coir Industry is quite amusing and interesting. The
Group is engaged in the manufacture and marketing of rubberized coir mattresses
under the brand name Sunidra since 1998. The Group has a factory at
Thodupuzha, Kerala with a capacity of 35,000 mattresses per month and is
catering to domestic and Export market.
Nidra means sleep in Sanskrit. The promise of good sleep and rest is ensured by Eastern
Mattresses Pvt. Limited which manufactures and sells the Sunidra range of mattresses, cushions
and pillows. The world-class rubberized coir mattresses are manufactured at Thodupuzha in
Idukki district, Kerala. Coir, a natural fibre derived from coconut husk adds to comfort and
luxury of the mattress.
A part of the Eastern conglomerate which has interests in food, condiments, textiles, rubber,
education and packaged water, Eastern Mattresses Pvt Ltd. manufactures quality mattresses at a
state-of-the-art facility. Sunidra rubberized coir mattress uses the UNICOM technology to

combine the resilience of coir for contoured support with the sensuous comfort of foam that
ensures blissful, comfortable and healthy sleep.
Excellent quality at right pricing has made Sunidra popular inside and outside Kerala. Exported
to many countries, Sunidra has notched a significant position in the mattress market. Eastern
Mattresses also manufactures soft and comfortable pillows and cushions.
Keeping with the times, professionals with specialized training and valuable experience assist the
the chairman Mr. M. E. Meeran and his son Mr. Navas Meeran in the management. The activities
of the Company are reviewed weekly through a Corporate Management Committee, which
consists of the key personnel of the Group.
