UCB is operating its IT division with the collaboration of some departments.

Such as
System admin, Business support application, banking support, Security, Quality
Insurance.
System Admin: System admin includes hardware department. Hardware
department perform the major activities of this department.
Business Support Application: IT includes channel management, MIS, software
development and integration department.
Banking Support:
Security: This department mainly take care of whole it security system.

Internet Banking System: UCB is giving customer support by desktop browser


and mobile application. Dextop browser is for general internet users. UCB has added
a new motion in their banking system through Mobile Application.
Mobile Apps. : Mobile apps is divided into two parts based on the devices. One is for
Tab (IOS & Android) and another one is for mobile phone (IOS & Android). This app is
available in Google Play Store and Apple Store.
Customers can do multiple activities through the internet banking system. Fund
transfer, Financial statements observe, credit card bill payment and mobile recharge
are the most useful uses of Internet Banking System of UCB.
There is an another function of IBS that is UCash. UCash is used for money
transaction, bill payment, air ticket, sports match ticket. The vital point of UCash is
people dont need to be the customer of UCB. General people can use UCash ase
mobile banking.

Software: In the case of software preparation of UCB, they mainly do it by


outsourcing. Most of the time external companys makes their software. Sometimes
external individuals make them too. UCB initially used software called Bexi Bank,
then they used PC Bank 2000 but now they have moved to Flexcube version
12.0.2, made by Oracle. They have changed to Oracle made software because it is
more secured, user friendly and faster than previous ones. Moreover, UCB uses their
internal expert bodies to build new software to support the major operations
customized to their daily needs.

Sub Divisions: UCB mainly emphasizes on Channel Management. Under channel


management it includes ATM (Automated Teller Machine) is an electronic
telecommunications device that enables the customers of UCB to perform financial transactions,

particularly cash withdrawal, without the need for a human cashier, clerk or bank teller. On UCBs
ATM, the customer is identified by inserting a plastic ATM card with a magnetic stripe or a plastic
smart card with a chip that contains a unique card number and some security information such as an
expiration date or CVVC (CVV). Authentication is provided by the customer entering a personal
identification number (PIN). Using this ATM, customers can access their bank deposit or credit
accounts in order to make a variety of transactions such as cash withdrawals, check balances, or
credit mobile phones. MFS (Mobile Financing System) United Commercial Bank Ltd
(UCB) launched its exclusive mobile financial service UCash recently. This initiative
of mobile financial service is an innovative approach of UCB to spread banking
service and facilities to the vast majority of unbanked population of the country
internet banking. To ensure smooth, prompt and uninterrupted service across the
country, Ucash has already appointed over 10,000 agents. Initially the service of
UCash will be available through ROBI & Airtel. It will be accessible through all the
mobile networks very soon. UCash is currently providing mobile financial service
facilities like money transfer, purchasing and money deposit. But one special
feature that UCash is coming up with for the first time is interest on deposit. People
will get interest on the money deposited by UCash service from the very first day.
Internal banking (IB) UCB also offers internal baking service to their clients
which is also known as wire transfer Wire transfer are normally being done when
their clients wants to transfer money to a different location without withdrawing
funds from his savings or personal account and deposit the amount to another
account. Wire transfer is faster and very safe compared to other types of
transaction because all we need is the authorization code coming from UCB that
allows us to transfer money anywhere or any bank we want. Furthermore, they are
also prominent for their SWFT services. UCB provides foreign money transfer to
their local clients i.e. remittance services, with the help of the supporting
companies like Western Union, Moneygram, Xpress Money etc.

Strategy:
Regular use of IT division: UCB IT division takes care of the whole department.
But they have to give extra attention to ATMs Using this ATM, customers can access
their bank deposit or credit accounts in order to make a variety of transactions such
as cash withdrawals, check balances, or credit mobile phones particularly cash
withdrawal. Their first priority is ATM, if this machine defaults or server crashes their
IT officials take immediate action to solve the server problem. MFS (Mobile Financing
System), They have developed mobile app for their users to pay bills , cash in and
cash out money through their mobile devices. If the app fails then they fix the
problem as soon as possible. Internal divisions operations are maintained by
intranet system of UCB where the bankers computers are interconnected with their
coworkers so that they can work interdependently and managers can also observe
bankers work from managers computer. On top of that UCB undertakes regular

server maintenance and security. They make regular restart of their entire server at
3 am in the midnight for the consumers convenience. This reduces everyday server
crash. Sometimes, according to the server traffic they refresh the servers to reduce
complications of their online facilities. Including that, UCB has a secured baking
system as they have enabled password system in the bank both for their employees
and for their clients. Everyone has to go through a complicated password system so
that they can increase the security of the banking system
NETWORK: UCB uses CISCO Network Assistant 5.0 Administrators get a centralized
view of the network with Cisco Network Assistant. They also have the flexibility to
employ its features across Cisco products for UCB and its branch offices, Load
balancer. A load balancer is a device that acts as a reverse proxy and distributes
network or application traffic across a number of servers. Load balancers are used
to increase capacity (concurrent users) and reliability of applications. Most
importantly, they use firewall for their network security. The firewall protects one
part of the network against unauthorized access.

Contingencies/ Back-Up: Sometimes ATM booths do not work for network or


server problems. For this reason every ATM boot has its individual server for back
up. Besides this UCB has a strong back up regarding their main server. UCB has a
Retender server which works parallel to its main server. If the main server and
retender server falls down, UCB will active their DR server which is located in Mirpur.
In addition, they uses CBS server to back up their official works and documents.
They also uses Transcends external server to backup Portable Hard Disks data.

Future Plan: In future UCB wants to add
