OUTLINE OF THE SPEECH

PURPOSE
The speech brings the trigger of giving detailed elaborations on the problems
discussed during the previous gathering as being raised up by the teachers and parents.
INTRODUCTION
Greetings
Good morning to the Principal, fellows teachers, PTA committee members and parents. A
very warm welcome to all of you to our second PTA meeting.
Attention
Education does not only rely on teachers and school administrators to run and handle.
Furthermore, our children is embracing education not only to gain knowledge, it also
prepares them for the challenging world ahead of them. So, we as parents should play our
role not as a spectator but as active participants in education as well. I am very sure, while
we deal education for our kids, we are more than expecting something from them, as far as
education is concerned. We want to see them excel, we want to see them learn to cope with
the needs of the world outside once they have graduated from education. It is education that
taught our children here not only in this school but in every school in the whole globe, a great
inspiration and encouragement to be more than what they have obtained in the classroom. As
the saying goes thinking out of the box. Now, that is what we call as 21st Century Way of
Thinking. However, without our full support, education would not be realised successfully.
Therefore, it is important that is a two-way cooperation should be established through
parents participation in order to support the teachers and school in realising what is planned
for our children.
Prerequisite
Worthy parents and teachers here in the association, our involvement in empowering
education in this modern world is vital as a mean to acknowledge education as part of our
childrens necessary needs. Education should be embraced as an element to shape the
identity of peoples well-being and high-class characteristics as we are entering the world of
no boundaries where various skills are needed to show that we capable of handling big things
without having any difficulties dealing with challenges of the world. Looking at the great use

of modern technologies and vast speed of information in a speed of light through our finger
tips, our children deserve the best of the education at every level they are at, no matter how
hard or challenging the world may offer to them because with education, their minds shall be
opened to the exposure of the new world ahead.
During this gathering, I also intend to pose some good suggestions in dealing with
problems that we face now, be it from the parents, or teachers or even students themselves
through a simple survey done last week, that we may come into a consensus that things can
be dealt with so that we may proceed with the agenda planned earlier for the betterment of
our childrens bright future ahead. From the list of problems posed by some of you during
the previous gathering, I have identified one main concern that leads to the postponement of
our projects that involves improving student literacy level in Mathematics, Science and
English Language, that is insufficient funds the Association have to carry out school projects
under the jurisdiction of the administration. Besides insufficient amount of funds we are
facing now, we are also taking our concern on the parents main worry about their childrens
performance that shows a drop in the performance of subjects such as Mathematics, Science
and English Language. Parents also urges teachers and students to have the spirit planted in
their hearts to improve their style of teaching and learning in order to create new atmosphere
in the class.
General Idea
This speech is mainly produced to raise up some issues that have been raised by the
parents and teachers regarding poor performance of critical subjects namely Mathematics,
Science and English Language as these subjects are considered vital for it plays major role
globally. Suggestions to solve the problems are also taken into account in this speech as
parents and schools are working together in realising the plans drawn up for the students.
Among other concerns posed by the parents are parents worries for their childrens
performance in subjects mentioned earlier and the needs for the educators to improve their
way of teaching and children in the learning style in order to master the skills needed in those
subjects. Solutions to overcome the insufficient funds handled by the PTA are also into the
focus of the speech in order to proceed any school projects that involve the subjects
mentioned earlier on.
CONTENT

Main point no. 1

The alarming concern that sparks the worries recently among parents including me
myself, not only as the President of the PTA of this school, also being a parent of my children
studying in this school is that of the recent poor performance in academic in this school in
particular, subjects required globally in terms of jobs criterion namely Mathematics, Science
and English Language. It is understood that these subjects are considered as critical subject
as it needs special skills in teaching the students to really master the ingredients in those
subjects. Teachers are required to be fed with the advancement of teaching these subjects so
that it fits the purpose and objectives of the lesson at the end of the day. However, teachers
are trying their very best in keeping themselves updated in fitting to the advancement of the
subjects requirements. The major changes that happened recently in our education policies,
system and syllabus has obviously making thing becoming hair wire. Teachers and students
alike are trying to get into the right lane so that they will not get too far from the changes in
the system as well in the syllabus and policies. Sometimes, when I look at my children, they
seems to be struggling in coping up with the changes, and so do the teachers in the school.
That period of transition somehow affect our childrens performance in exceling their studies.
Blaming solely on the changes would not bring any benefit as we need to change and
transform ourselves befitting to the modern world we live in.
By looking into the situation, we can say that we should not be angered or dissatisfied
by the changes made as it is made not to make things complicated, although at the start
everything seems improper and disorganised, we should be aware that the changes are made
to improve the quality and standard of our education system fitting to the competition
throughout the globe. It is the responsibility of both parties to find ways to solve the problem
and not blaming it for being unfair. We are urged by the government that we should be aware
of the of such changes and we are supposed to be ready to any transformation, not to be static
at the system that has been practiced years back even before we were born. Our children are
not the same as we were before. Such poor performance in academic may be affected by the
methods the teachers is using to teach them. Deficiency of understanding the topics or
concepts of certain subjects may also lead to fiasco in particular subjects.
However, it is not the matter of the style of teaching that makes the student unable to
muddle through with the subjects. It is the matter of dealing with the complication in order to
untangle the issue. As an alternative to solve the matter, parents could send their children to

attend extra classes organised by schools or any volunteers handling tuition for particular
subjects. Parents should also ensure that they spend some quality time for at least two hours
in solving their childrens homework. Parents who spend time with children could at least
bring priceless moral support to them in doing their homework and a sense of bonding could
also exist. The children would feel that someone is around should they need help in trying to
solve the problem in their studies. Besides being an agent of support to your children in
doing their homework, parents may also embolden their children to read books that are
correlated to the subjects. By reading books, it may somehow broaden the knowledge they
obtained and to widen their critical thinking while they read books to get the ideas of what
actually is happening in and around them.
Main point no. 2
Education has now evolved from the authentic method such as black boards and chalks
to technological devices and media in order to catch up with the advancement of the world.
These media has made the students especially our children studying in this school given a
new spirit of learning as it widened new experience to the brand new generation. As the
saying goes, everything is now on your fingertips, this phrase is befitting to the situation
today whereby information, news and even printed books are now available to be read on the
Internet and we can read the books purchased through our gadgets and tablets or even on our
phones. See how great the technology is now. So, as we are now living in the world without
boundaries, there is no excuse anymore for us not to know anything as we are now holding
the information everywhere using our fingertips.
Our children since their young age, are vastly exposed to the challenging subjects
related to science and technology, languages and problem solving. The subjects mentioned
earlier has brought us to the advancement of education transformation in teaching students
what is going to be in store for them for the past years. Other subjects such as History,
Geography and other related subject however demands the world to look at it, and may seem
unpretentious to us. However, when you look at the topics discussed in any subject taught,
you might be surprised to see that it becomes complicated to be understood.
Looking at the situation, it seems that the role of parents and teachers should be
played well as this is dealing with our future generation. Without the support of us, our
children might be in facing trouble and in the end, our country is in a mess. As parents, our
Children should be monitored in terms of their great interest and focus in study.

By

monitoring their own children, parents would be able to get engaged with them in helping

them to excel in studies. Little help and encouragement from the parents would at least give
the children a big motivation to achieve better in their academic performance.
Teaching may be the only a given role for teachers in school but with we should not
be forgetting how teacher has grabbed attention of a learning process in the class room. In
other words, teachers must be creative in order to deliver what is required in the subject.
Teacher should be proactive in attracting students to listen to them by giving rewards the
students that perform or otherwise. Teachers also could use new types of media to teach
which may include tablets, laptops , audios, field trips and many more.
Main point no. 3
I have just done talking about the subjects issues, and I hope that all of us at this point
should realise how important our roles are in contributing to the success of our own children
in mastering the critical subjects. Moving on to our main issue and the root of the problem.
As you all know, in order for us to achieve something and to make things running as plan, we
need a strong financial support and looking at the current situation, we do not have that
support. That makes us hard to run every programs and projects as planned earlier this year.
In order to not make this issue prolonged, we have come to light with a few suggestions in
grossing more money for our funds.
After having a discussion with the PTA committee, we thought of something simple
to earn something for our fund. Organising schools day of fiesta would be the first fruit of
our mind to be held very soon as part to get at least and early earning for our fund. Simple
yet bring a lot of money to us. The concept of the event would be the setting up of food
stalls, souvenir booths and game mini arcades mainly by the students or parents or perhaps
from contributors who are familiar with the school administrators. For students, it will be
managed through the clubs and association registered in school. Earnings would come from
coupons purchased earlier with the cost of RM25.00, RM55.00 and RM75.00 respectively.
From the collection through the purchase of the coupons, 70% would go into the PTA funds
and the remaining 30% would go under respective clubs and associations participating in the
event. Whats interesting is that, clubs or association that managed to collect the highest
amount of earnings would be rewarded with mystery prize to be decided later.
Another alternative to raise money for our fund is organising Gala Ball Dinner.
Organising committee would be selling tickets for tables at the price of RM400 each tables.
Each table should be able to accommodate 10 person. Each table would cost us about

RM200.00 for the food and we would reserve another RM50.00 per table for lucky draw
gifts. So, we will earn RM150.00 nett per table. Assuming that we have 100 tables, we should
be able to get at least an amount of RM150,000.00. That is already good enough for us to
earn a good sum for our fund. It is a good start though.

We understand that all of us here comes from various kind of economic background.
With that factor, I am begging for your kind heart, it would be grateful for us, should there be
any one of you here would generously lend a helping hand to contribute some amount of
money as additional funding for our PTA in order to start our first project. Without the
starting figure, we might not be able to start the project in no time. With the power you have
in each working organisation, be it in government or private sector, you may persuade
anybody in your organisation to contribute as well for our fund.

CONCLUSION
Summary
Looking at the poor performance of our children in those three subjects, teachers and
school should not be the only party that is responsible for the poor performance in academic
of the students. Parents and students themselves, should also participate and help to identify
the reasons toward the problems. Information and technology advancement should be utilised
wisely by everyone in order to progress the academic performance and also improve the
learning and teaching methods in school.
Each and every one of you present here are welcomed should you have any new and brilliant
ideas in making this school the best place for our children to gain knowledge. Teachers,
parents or perhaps everyone should get themselves involved in playing their role in making
sure the excellence of our children. We too consider that not all of you could contribute
financially. However, we are optimist that you could still contribute in other things possible
for us so long as things discussed would come into its realisation.
Closing statement
Education is undeniably a life-long learning experiences everyone is putting on to.
Parents being the closest companion to their own children is the best model in setting the
attitude of their children. School and teachers on the other hand also plays a role to shape

these children into a better mould for the nation. Parents concerns and teachers attention
might help the students to feel that they are belonged and hoping that the people around them
would bring inspiration to be more than usual.
FINAL GREETING
Last but not least, I would like to wish, on behalf of the PTA committee, a million of
thanks to all of you for letting us taking a little of your time attending this meeting. I also
would like to apologize should I uttered word or actions that might displease you. Thank you
very much.
