Moral GPS provides a five-step discernment and decision process through the metaphor of driving the "Moral Highway."
The steps:
1. Finding your moral location.
2. Setting goals
3. Evaluating ethical "routes" (values and theories)
4. Deciding.
5. Evaluating and accepting accountability.
This e-book is interactive. It provides three levels of depth: the basic steps, more detailed description in a "tourist info center, and more thorough philosophical analysis in an "operator's manual." The "MyGPS" feature is like a workbook. Navigation is by hyperlinks. A detailed glossary defines standard ethical terms and terms used uniquely in the Moral GPS (e.g., "road hazard" and "crash risk"); brief definitions pop up in the text at the touch of the cursor.
Moral GPS makes sound philosophic ethics accessible (even fun) while providing all the depth of typical college ethics textbooks.
Reading and sophistication levels:
- basic step level: high school and above.
- remainder: college undergraduate and above. (This e-book is used as a text in the graduate Liberal Arts program at Johns Hopkins University.)
