Indeed Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) informed his noble Companions
that this Muslim nation would split up into various groups and sects when he said, “those
before you from the People of the Book [i.e. the Jews and Christians] split-up into seventy-
two sects upon innovation, and verily this Muslim nation (Ummah) will split-up into seventy-
three sects upon innovation, all in the fire (of Hell) except one, and that is the Jamaa’ah [the
Companions and those who remained upon their way].” [As-Sunnah of Ibn Abee 'Aasim (#2)
and declared authentic by Shaykh al-Albaanee]
Another narration collected by at-Tirmidhee and others mentions that the Prophets
Companions asked him, “and what is that (one) sect?” The Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi
wasallam) said, “That which I and my companions are upon today.” [at-Tirmidhee (#2641)
and others: hasan]
And he (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said, “And whosoever lives long from amongst you
[the Companions] will see much differing and controversy, so it is upon you to stick to my
Sunnah and the Sunnah of my rightly-guided successors - cling to that with your molar
teeth.” [Aboo Daawood (#4607), at-Tirmidhee (#2676) and others]
So these statements of Allaah’s Messenger show that there will be from amongst the Muslim
nation groups and sects which will follow their desires, and deviate and abandon the correct
path, the way of the Prophet and his noble Companions, and thus, enter the Fire of Hell - all
of them except that one saved-group who stick to his way and the way of his Companions.
Other similar narrations:
The Messenger (sallallaah ‘alayhe wa sallam) said,
“The Jews split into 71 sects, and the Christians split into 72 sects. My nation is going to
split into 73 sects, and all of them will be in the Hellfire except one.”
It was said, “Who are they, O Messenger of Allaah?” He replied,
“They those who are upon what I and my Companions are upon.”
Prophet(saw) said I have left you upon clearproof its night is like its day no one deviates
except that he is destroyed & whoever amongst you lives for long will see great controversy
So stick to that which you know of my Sunnah & the Sunnah of RightlyGuidedCaliphs cling
to that with your molar teeth.
The Prophet said, “You will follow the ways of those nations who were before you, span by
span and cubit by cubit (i.e., inch by inch) so much so that even if they entered a hole of a
mastigure, you would follow them.” We said, “O Allah’s Apostle! (Do you mean) the Jews
and the Christians?” He said, “Whom else?”
Narrated Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman(RA):
The people used to ask Allah’s Apostle about the good but I used to ask him about the
evil lest I should be overtaken by them. So I said, “O Allah’s Apostle! We were living in
ignorance and in an (extremely) worst atmosphere, then Allah brought to us this good
(i.e., Islam); will there be any evil after this good?” He said, “Yes.” I said, ‘Will there be
any good after that evil?” He replied, “Yes, but it will be tainted (not pure.)” I asked,
“What will be its taint?” He replied, “(There will be) some people who will guide others
not according to my tradition? You will approve of some of their deeds and disapprove
of some others.” I asked, “Will there be any evil after that good?” He replied, “Yes,
(there will be) some people calling at the gates of the (Hell) Fire, and whoever will
respond to their call, will be thrown by them into the (Hell) Fire.” I said, “O Allah s
Apostle! Will you describe them to us?” He said, “They will be from our own people
and will speak our language.” I said, “What do you order me to do if such a state should
take place in my life?” He said, “Stick to the group of Muslims and their Imam (ruler).”
I said, “If there is neither a group of Muslims nor an Imam (ruler)?” He said, “Then
turn away from all those sects even if you were to bite (eat) the roots of a tree till death
overtakes you while you are in that state.” ( Bukhari)

‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab, radiallahu ‘anhu, said, “There is no excuse for anyone going astray
thinking that he is upon guidance. Nor for abandoning guidance thinking it to be
misguidance, since the affairs have been made clear, the proof established and the excuse cut
off.” That is because the Sunnah and the Jamaa’ah have consolidated and safeguarded all of
the Religion. It has been made clear to the people, so it is upon the people to comply and
follow. Indeed Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) informed his noble

Ibn Mas’ood, radiallahu ‘anhu, said,”The Jamaa’ah is what conforms to the truth, even
if you are alone.” Reported by Ibn’Asaakir in Taareekh Dimashq with a saheeh isnaad as
pointed out by Shaikh al-Albaanee in al-Mishkaat (1/61).
So my dear brothers in Islam how is it that we have so many jammaat and parties claiming to
be from the ahlus sunnah wal jammah yet every single jammat or group differs from each
other in numerous issues including the very basics of Islam. So how come they claim to be
truly on sunnah of Prophet Mohammed saws? Who is fooling whom? If every group really
claims to be on sunnah then they should not have any single difference between them,
because as ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab, radiallahu ‘anhu, said, “There is no excuse for anyone
going astray thinking that he is upon guidance. Nor for abandoning guidance thinking it to be
misguidance, since the affairs have been made clear, the proof established and the excuse cut
off.” That is because the Sunnah and the Jamaa’ah have consolidated and safeguarded all of
the Religion. It has been made clear to the people, so it is upon the people to comply and
follow.
Yet they all differ in major issues, let alone the fiqh differences.
We need a solution! We need Islaam and nothing but Islaam. We need a return to that which
Muhammad (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) and his noble Companions were upon. So it is
incumbent upon us to return to the texts of the Qur’aan and Sunnah and the guidance of the
Companions and those after them, and to free ourselves from these innovated ideologies and
those who call us to them.
We need Islaam and nothing but Islaam!
Imaam al-Barbahaari (rahimahullaah) said:
All praise is for Allaah who guided us to Islaam and blessed us with it and placed us in the
best nation, so we ask Him to grant us that we keep to that which He loves and is pleased
with and avoid that which He hates and which angers Him.
Know that Islam is the Sunnah, and the Sunnah is Islaam[1] and one of them cannot be
established without the other. [1] = The Prophet said, “He who turns away from my Sunnah
is not from me.” Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. trans. 7/1-2/no.l), Muslim (Eng. Trans.
2/703/n0.3236) and an-Nasaa’ee.
Abu Hurairah said that Allaah’s Messenger said, “All of my Ummah will enter Paradise
except those who refuse.” It was said, “Who will refuse?” He replied. “Whoever obeys me
enters Paradise and whoever disobeys me has refused.” Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng.
trans. 9/284/n0.384).
Imaam az-Zuhree (the famous taabi’ee, d.124H) said,”The people of knowledge who came
before us used to say,’Salvation lies in clinging to the Sunnah.’” Reported by ad-Daarimee
in his Sunan (no.96).
Imaam Maalik said,”The Sunnah is like the Ark of Noah. Whoever embarks upon it reaches
salvation and whoever refuses is drowned.” Quoted by Shaikh ul-Islaam Ibn Taimiyyah in
Majmoo’ ul-fataawaa (4/57).

There are people who claim to stick to sunnah, when shown the sunnah of prophet
Mohammed saws with enough clear proofs, they either try to turn away from it or argue
against it or just give less priority over their intellectual reasoning or prefer to follow blindly
to the leaders or Imams of their Jamaah even if they are acting contrary to sunnah knowingly
or unknowingly.
We have to mould our deeds upon the model of sunnah rather than moulding the sunnah
hence Islam to suit our deeds. Because ISLAM stands for submission to will of ALLAH , and
we have to submit to the will of ALLAH rather than we try to submit Islam to our desires,
fantasies , intellects ,ideologies or methodologies.
Therefore it is high time we do undertake reckoning of our religious beliefs and actions to see
if they are really in consonance with those of prophet mohammed saws and his companions
so that we know whether are we truly upon what he (saws) and his companions were upon,
as the Messenger (sallallaah ‘alayhe wa sallam) said,: “The Jews split into 71 sects, and the
Christians split into 72 sects. My nation is going to split into 73 sects, and all of them will be
in the Hellfire except one.”
It was said, “Who are they, O Messenger of Allaah?” He replied,
“They those who are upon what I and my Companions are upon.”
For example let us examine the most famous group among us which claim to be sticking to
sunnah , and which is really equally beloved and hated by muslims and also very much
applauded by non-muslims alike, The” Jamaa ‘ at at- Tableegh ” or the ” Tableeghi Jamaat. ”
This party came into existence in the 1920s. Many Muslims claim it to be a creation of the
colonial British in order to divide the hearts of the Muslims with false ‘ aqeedah and suppress
the spirit of Jihad but the adherents to the Qur ‘an, Sunnah do not indulge in conspiracy
theories and only concern themselves with what is real and apparent. The Tableeghi Jamaat
takes its teaching from the book ” Fadhail ‘ Amaal ” (Virtues of the deeds) authored by
Muhammad Zakaria Kandalvi on the suggestions put forward by Ashraf Ali Thanvi, the two
so called greats of the school of Deobandh in India.
Today, the Tableeghi Jamaat is considered to be the largest ” evangelical group ” calling
Muslims to prayer, fasting, Hajj etc. Those who ascribe themselves to this Jamaat CLAIM
that the book ” Fadhail ‘ Amaal ” (also known as Tableeghi Nisaab) is the collection of
various verses from the Qur ‘ an and ahadith decribing the virtues and great rewards of Hajj,
Zakat, Salat, Dhikr etc. BUT a close examination of this book in the light of Qur ‘an and
authentic Sunnah reveals horrendous teachings of Shirk, innovations, lies on the Messenger
of Allah, belittling the pious generation of the noble companions and the scholars. Indeed, in
the name of loving the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) and the Righteous People, Satan
has seduced this firqah and enticed them into Shirk and Kufr - to which they appear to be so
blind.

Are they really on Sunnah?!
The founder of Tablighi jamat- Moulana Ilyas was much influenced by another prominent
Deobandi scholar - Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi about whom he
used to say, “Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi has done a great
service (to the religion). It is my heart’s desire that the teachings
should be his and the Manhaj (methodology) of Dawah (propagation) be mine, so that
this way his teachings become well-known.( Malfoozat Moulana Ilyaas (Sayings of
Moulana Ilyaas), collected by Muhammad Manzoor Noomani, p.50, incident no. 56.)
So my dear brother in Islam ,is it sunnah or Islam of Prophet Mohammed (saws)?
People have got their own ways of teaching Islam and own invented methodologies. Are they
teaching Sunnah in reality?
Therefore their books are full of things which oppose sunnah explicitly.
They have spoiled more than a generation of muslims in their beliefs in a very deceptive way.
They did not pay heed to ALLAH’s command not to mix truth with falsehood.
Once again read this hadith of Messenger of Allah (saws): Narrated Hudhaifa bin Al-
Yaman(RA):The people used to ask Allah’s Apostle about the good but I used to ask him
about the evil lest I should be overtaken by them. So I said, “O Allah’s Apostle! We were
living in ignorance and in an (extremely) worst atmosphere, then Allah brought to us this
good (i.e., Islam); will there be any evil after this good?” He said, “Yes.” I said, ‘Will there
be any good after that evil?” He replied, “Yes, but it will be tainted (not pure.)” I asked,
“What will be its taint?” He replied, “(There will be) some people who will guide others not
according to my tradition? You will approve of some of their deeds and disapprove of some
others.”
Therefore it is incumbent upon us to know the truth first before knowing falsehood, then only
we will be able to distinguish it from falsehood.
