4. Getting started GUI version

AME 2.1 can read metadata from a single frame, one take/file sequence or several takes/file sequences by
processing the selected input path recursively. The extracted data is stored as a list of tab-separated values
in a .csv file, which can be opened, for example, as a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel.
The .csv file is named after the input file/sequence. If the selected input file is an ALEXA QuickTime/ProRes
file, the prefix is extended with '_mov' (e.g. A001C017_120923_R33F_mov.csv).
If an ARRI Look File was used during a shot, AME 2.1 will save the look .xml file in addition to the .csv file,
also named after the input file/sequence (e.g. A001C017_120923_R33F_BWnoLUT.xml).

Click the arrow icon next to the Input path text box to open a browser window or simply drag and
drop the file/folder on the text box to point to a file, a sequence or a set of sequences for metadata
extraction.
Select the Output path where the .csv file and look .xml file (if available) will be saved.
The Setting Basic or All defines the extent of the data set that will be exported:
- Basic delivers a subset of metadata containing the most relevant information for postproduction.
- All contains the data from the Basic subset and additional technical information, such as
Processing Version or the raw LDS (Lens Data System) or Motor encoder values.
Please take a look at the spreadsheet document that is included with the AME 2.0 software and
documentation. Values in bold letters are part of the 'Basic' subset, grey values in addition make up
the additional information, available by selecting 'All'.
Click Run to start the metadata extraction or Stop to abort. Depending on the amount of files, the
software may take some time to traverse through the directories.
Enabling View output shows processing details (verbose mode).

When only one file or take is selected as the input, AME 2.1 will show a spreadsheet preview window to
allow a quick check of the extracted data.

5. Getting Started Command-Line Version

The command line version of AME 2.1 offers the same basic functionality as the GUI version, adds a few
extra options and gives you an extra geek credit just for using it. It will also read metadata from a single
frame, one take/file sequence or several takes/file sequences and recursively processes the input path it is
given.
To display the set of available options, run ./ARRIMETAExtract:
-h [ --help ]
-i [ --input ] arg

Sequence input path, i.e.

- a directory containing ALEXA ARRIRAW or DPX (.ari|.dpx)
- a directory containing ALEXA QuickTime/ProRes clips (.mov)
- a single ALEXA QuickTime/ProRes file (.mov)
Unless providing a single QuickTime movie file, AME 2.0 will process the given
directory recursively.

-l [ --look ]

Extract the look file(s) as .xml (if available)

-o [ --output ] arg

Directory for extracted metadata output (default: current)

The output file is named after the input file/sequence. Metadata is exported as .csv
file. Look files will also be named after the input file/sequence, followed by the
name of the look file. Look files are saved as .xml files.

-s [ --separator ] arg

Set separator (default: TAB)

Use a separator other than TAB, e.g. -s ";" or -s ","

-v [ --version ]

Print version info

-x [ --xml ] arg

Apply metadata filter in XML format

Using the ARRIRAW Converter 2.4 (GUI), it is possible to create a custom filter
that defines what metadata will be exported. This filter is stored as an xml file.

6. Known Issues

ALEXA MXF/DNxHD files are not yet supported.

Selecting individual QT files in the Input path browser window of the Windows 7 version is not yet
supported.
Regarding Metadata errors please see Release Notes in ALEXA Metadata White Paper SUP8
at http://www.arri.com/camera/digital_cameras/downloads.html

If you have any questions about the application, please send an email to digitalworkflow@arri.de.
