BS BIOLOGY 2A Impacts of Technology A pleasant morning to each and every one of us. I would like to start my speech by introducing myself, I am Aia Sunshine J. Nepales, a second year student from New Era University, majoring in Biology. What I would like to talk to you about today is something we are aware of, the technology. Albert Einstein once said It has been appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity. Have you asked yourself why technology is so important today? Just look around and youll know why literally, at every instant of time, we are surrounded by technology. Its use has made life easy. We need technology. Its important. You ask why? Well, then. Places far away have come closer, thanks to technology. The pace of life has increased, thanks to technology. Communication is rapid, travel is fast, movement is easy, action is quick, interaction has sped up and so has life. Things that once took hours to complete, can be done in seconds today. The world is smaller and life is fast. Courtesy Technology. Owing to the application of technology, our standard of living has increased. Our needs are met with greater ease. Technology has brought advancements in agriculture, due to which food produce has increased. Owing to the developments in engineering and architecture, building robust structures has been possible. Technology has boosted every industry. Businesses have grown, creating more employment opportunities. Advancements in technology have led to the evolution of newer and faster modes of transport and communication. The computer and internet technologies are ubiquitous. They have changed every sector; be it medicine, tourism, education, entertainment or any other. Technology has touched every aspect of life, making it easier, better, and different. Technology has changed living.
Internet is first and foremost communication technology with the
potential to change people social interaction. Internet adoption in homes has grown rapidly since the early 1990s. Social media is the way for interaction with people which is more focused on individual relations and goals in a community. Social media is now pervading our society. Facebook was created as recently as 2004 and yet it has become a staple of our daily interactions. Facebook does not stand alone in this sense; Twitter is an even more recent innovation. Yet even as social media begins to dominate many aspects of our society, many questions are raised; do such artificial interactions diminish the human ability to intermingle naturally and disrupt the patterns of the human psyche itself? Such conclusions would lead one to assume that social media is merely a cancer to be torn from society. Technology has sidelined patience from our lives. Technology advances show people a more efficient way to do things, and these processes get results. For example, education has been greatly advanced by the technological advances of computers. Students are able to learn on a global scale without even leaving their classrooms. Agricultural processes that once required dozens upon dozens of human workers can now be automated, thanks to advances in technology, which means cost-efficiency for farmers. Medical discoveries occur at a much more rapid rate, thanks to machines and computers that aid in the research process and allow for more intense educational research into medical matters. Funny as it may sound, Google is god for students. As a result, students spend a good hour searching for the best stuff on this platform that has virtually every information in this world. Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V, Ctrl + S then viola! Assignment done! Some may call it a bliss, but some differ. The more advanced society becomes technologically, the more people begin to depend on computers and other forms of technology for everyday existence. This means that when a machine breaks or a computer crashes, humans become almost disabled until the problem is resolved. This kind of dependency on technology puts people at a distinct disadvantage, because they become less self-reliant. Technology has save human effort and time to a great extent and makes life easy and comfortable. Nothing else has changed the living the way technology has. And thats exactly why technology is so important today and will always be. An accomplishment is savored only
when there are no strings of pain or stress attached to it. We might
have the latest technology serving us big time, but unknowingly, we might be missing out on those teeny-weeny moments of happiness that life bestows on us, so I would like you to leave with the words of a great writer, Patti Smith, who said, Please, no matter how we advance technology, please dont abandon the book. There is nothing in our material world more beautiful than the book.
