SCIENCE NEWS
HTA ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB MEETING

Our next Environmental Club meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 2 at 2:00 in Mr. Gasdaʼs
Elluminate room. Topics to be discussed will include our upcoming Waimea Valley field trips,
planning for our beach cleanup and whale watch events, and Earth Day preparations.

WAIMEA VALLEY FIELD TRIPS

Wednesday, April 14 and April 21 from 9:00-1:00

Join us on an outing to Waimea Valley. Students will learn about the Hawaiian ahupuaʼa system and
resource management, native Hawaiian plants and their cultural uses, and endangered species living
in the valley. In addition, we will be doing volunteer work with the caretakers of Waimea Valley.
Work may include garden, nursery, and trail maintenance, pond and stream clearing, and/or invasive
species removal. These events are open to all middle and high school students. Permission slips
and waiver forms will be sent out shortly.

Please stop in to Mr. Gasda's Elluminate room if you have any questions regarding any of these
events.

The end of the year is an Fourth Quarter Schedule
exciting time. It presents an
opportunity for students to
showcase and share the
work they have achieved
throughout the school year.
There are many great
activities and events scheduled within
this last quarter.

We would like all of our Ohana to be able to

participate in as many things as possible while still
maintaining good academic standing. For this reason the Fourth Quarter Learning
Center schedule will look different than previous quarter schedules. You will find an
attached copy of the classes that will be offered.

Please note that the school schedule given out at the beginning of the year shows
that classes are held all the way through to the end of the school year. However, due
to these necessary adjustments in the schedule, most of the core classes will not be
offered 4th quarter. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause
but we are sure that this is the best decision for each HTA student.

Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher to schedule any additional tutoring if
you feel this is needed. Each teacher will also be sending out their own personal
schedule regarding the times they will be available for tutoring.

Please take the time to look and review ALL information within the email you received
on Thursday, February 24, 2010; this is a crucial element for you and your Ohana to
have a clear understanding of what will be going on for the upcoming months. If you
have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at 676-5444.

We thank you for your continued support. Enjoy the rest of your week.

Mahalo,

Hawaii Tech Academy Administration and Staff
