Upon hearing the title of the film, two things came to my mind: first, is that it is something
creepy, and second, the famous game with already three extensions.
The start of the film showed a miner in Nueva Vizcaya being possessed by a demon or
Diablo and being treated by a witch doctor or albulario. Although Im not really a fan of horror
movies, that scene made me expect that there will be ghosts or evil creatures that the actors will
fight or something similar to that. As the film progressed, it focused on the life of an old woman
named Nana Lusing. The scenes after that of the miner were really boring that the others fell
asleep; I think they only woke up when others reacted after seeing a figure standing in Nana
Lusings room. It took a while before Nana Lusings interacted with her sons. She has five sons;
one is a soldier, anothers a miner, showed in the first part, theres also a farmer, the one that
doesnt want to talk to her, theres also her said-to-be favourite and may be the most evil, a
businessman, and the youngest son, which left for his own religion and seeking this Light.
Later on the film, the different cases of Nana Lusings sons will be revealed.
Honestly, I was not really impressed about the movie until the open forum. The
explanation made by the assistant director, if I remember correctly, really helped me understand
more about the film. The film was unique. It showed a different theme to the Filipino people,
especially to the youth, that there are places and stories, hidden, that are different from what we
usually see nowadays in other films or TV series. The film let us see another side of our society.
I view the film as an eye-opener, that we believe it or not, there are people whose lives are that
boring, rather painful. On the other hand, in the case of Nana Lusings sons, it showed the lives
of different people, to what extent a person can be. If I were to describe what the title means, I
would not say it is the figure standing in Nana Lusings room, rather, it is the inner demon in
people. Nana Lusings favourite son does all kinds of vices and illegal things, and that for us is
very evil. The depiction of the film for that son as evil is very funny; when he tried to enter the
house, the door with palaspas wont open. It is as if the palaspas keeps of demons away
from the house.
If I were to rate the film, I will give it a 4 out of 5, especially on the message I thought it
wants to convey. The film may be boring to watch but after thinking of it some more, the film
may be considered a very good one.
