Effective Beginning

A Good Life

A good life is what everybody wants. But what does it mean to have a good life?
Everybody has different ideas of a good life. Some people think more about themselves,
others like to help people. Both are examples of good life, but as long as you are happy
with yourself, you are having a good life. In my essays, I will tell you my ideas of a good
life. You might not totally agree with me, but l guarantee you will learn something from it.

Life
Life is beautiful and yet life is not a bed of roses. Though it is full of ups and downs it
has many facets of blessings and successes.
To some people, life is hard, cruel and merciless. These set of people see life as
punishment throughout their entire lives. They therefore resigned themselves to fate,
believing all is finished. To them, nothing that they do can ever be good. They take
delight in committing crimes and maiming others to avenge their ill-fortune. They lost
every sense of direction and most times, some of them go as far as committing suicide,
just to escape the injustice life has meted out to them.

Extracurricular Activities

The alarm clock sounds. I open my eyes, and deep from under my covers I think, What
do I have to do today? I think about the vocab quiz and the words tumbling through my
head. I think about the paper on King Lear I crammed in the night before, the intricate
ideas still fresh in my mind. I think about having to walk my dog, and do the laundry. I
think about how I must read 20 pages of Speak, Memory on the bus to school. I think
about the list of terms that I must memorize for my Economics test. I realize I had a
dream about Alan Greenspan wearing leotards and think about that, too.

Love is something wonderful

Love decides everything in this world. It doesnt have any conditions or boundaries. We
dont know exactly what love is and where it comes from. But one thing is sure: we are
nothing without love! There are times when we feel shy and timid, when we are afraid of
expressing the love we feel. Being afraid of embarrassing the other person or ourselves
we hesitate to say the actual words I love you. One can say I love you in many ways:
by means of nice presents and little notes, smiles and sometimes tears.

Outgrowing the Garage-Elijah

The air is tainted with unnatural fumes of grease, wood, and burnt electrical tape. Oil
slicks stain the floor. Thick wooden shelves sag unnervingly close to buckling under the
weight of old house paint and power tools. A workbench lies buried beneath papers,
rulers, cans, and metal shards. An uncomfortable growl pours from the water heater.
Most people wouldnt describe my grimy garage as pleasant, but I love spending my
free time here. Its where I built a 2 ft trebuchet in sixth grade, a 4 ft trebuchet in seventh
grade, and plan to build an 8 ft trebuchet this winter break. Its where I built a battlebot
and slapped an Arduino microcontroller on top to give it intelligence. Ever since I sat
watching jets shake the sky and explosions rock the screen in the movie Iron Man as a
stunned sixth grader, Ive spent weekends experimenting in my garage, trying to learn
everything I can about engineering and robotics.

Effective Body Development

My Bestfriend

For me, my best friend is my own cousin. Named Azilah Syuhada, she is in the same
age as me. Maybe because of that, we get closer easily compared to the others. We
contact each other frequently. We were both exited if we met each other. We share the
same hobbies. She is a tall girl, who stood at 1.67 meters. She really has a good sense
of humour. Whenever I am with her, I will always laugh my head off.

She lives with her family in Butterworth. Being the eldest in her family, she had the
responsibility of looking after her other two younger brother and another two younger
sisters.
Azilah is simple and had always lived up o her motto Simple in virtue and steadfast
in duty. She always attire in baggy jeans and oversized t-shirt. She is very
compassionate, always willing to lend a helping hand or give a sympathetic ear to other
peoples problems. That is why, aside from my mother, I always share my problems with
her.

Pretty Is as Pretty Does: Pretty Woman and the Ideology of

Female Heterosexual Consumerist Fulfilment

The immensely successful film Pretty Woman--one of the many depressing symptoms
of the 90's post-feminist backlash--re-broadcasts this patriarchal propaganda-message
with a vengeance. Vivian, the heroine and magnet for a female audience's cinematic
identification, is rescued, redeemed, and swept up into heterosexual heaven, because
she embodies and exudes patriarchy's most stereotypical norms of femininity: un-selfconscious beauty, childlike innocence, playful and frivolous abandon, as well as
motherly caring and tenderness. The overall message of the film is as clear as it is
insistent: if you as a woman truly embody and exhibit these qualities, then you too can
be rescued from and transcend the kind of adversity that Vivian faces, namely the
reality of having to sell yourself in a place where money and credit cards rule and where
we all have to bargain with what the market of exchange deems valuable and desirable.
You too, the film proclaims, can achieve heterosexual fulfilment, which is your one true
goal and final desire, if only you successfully discipline yourself to be as innocent and
unreflectively pretty as Vivian.

The Book that Made Me a Journalist

I was taking a composition class, and we were learning how to write persuasive essays.
Up until that point, I had had average grades, but I was always a good writer and my
teacher immediately recognized this. The first paper I wrote for the class was about my
experience going to an Indian reservation located near my uncle's ranch in southwest
Colorado. I wrote of the severe poverty experienced by the people on the reservation,
and the lack of access to voting booths during the most recent election. After reading
this short story, my teacher approached me and asked about my future plans. No one
had ever asked me this, and I wasn't sure how to answer. I said I liked writing and I liked
thinking about people who are different from myself. She gave me a book and told me
that if I had time to read it, she thought it would be something I would enjoy. I was

actually quite surprised that a high school teacher was giving me a book titled Lies My
Teacher Told Me. It had never occurred to me that teachers would lie to students. The
title intrigued me so much that on Friday night I found myself staying up almost all night
reading, instead of going out with friends.

A Good Teacher

Not every child learns the same way, nor are they interested in the same things. It is
difficult to keep the attention of 15-20 children under the age of ten. Classroom setup
and design is a good way to get and keep the attention of students. Workstations are a
good way to encourage different types of learning. By allowing children a chance to
choose which activities they want to participate in, children are taking control of their
own education. At the elementary level, children are always learning and sometimes
dont even know it. When I was in kindergarten, I can remember playing at the different
stations in the classroom. One station was for gardening and we could plant seeds and
check them every day to see how much they had grown. Another station in that
classroom that sticks out in my mind is the arts and crafts station.

My Father

Moving to his appearance, I could say that the way he acts and moves is an important
part of his personality. For example soothing particular of him is that he tends to walk
very quickly, this may be the reason about why he is that thin, he walks a lot
everywhere, and I frequently believe that he does not walk, he jogs! Taking about the
way he eats, he has a particular way to twist his tortilla and to make some kind of cone,
then he chews it without noise, he loves to eat and every time that I eat with him, I wish
I could enjoy my food as he does. When he eats, he tends not to speak; however, when
he speaks is another story. When he speaks is easy to notice his expressions, because
he always frowns; when he has doubts, he always smiles when he is happy, and he
always is serious when he is worried. His expressions are something that makes even
more interesting to listen to him

Effective Ending
My Father

My father is the kind of person that does not show his feelings a lot. But I could say that
he can be though; however, when his with me it is not like that at all, he might not kiss
and jug me every single day, but when he does, it is what I consider the most sincere
actions that someone can ask for. When e hugs me, I feel warm and loved, his hard skin
becomes a soft thing. To conclude, some people may think that this essay is a little bit
too cheesy, and maybe it is, but I do not care because there was not someone else that
I wanted to describe like this. I have the wonderful opportunity to have this awesome
father.

Why Abortions Should Not Be Tolerated

Though abortions are often seen as an option for women who, due to various
circumstances, do not want to give birth to a baby, it is perhaps the worst choice. No
matter how a child looks like in a womb, no matter how underdeveloped its
consciousness and nervous system is, it is still a human being that has a right to live.
Besides, abortions cause severe physiological and psychological damage to canceled
mothers, such as ectopic pregnancy, terminal diseases, depression and suicidal
behavior, alcohol and drug abuse.

Technology -- The Dark Side

To be objective about it, the so-called downside of technology real as it is represents

more what's wrong with us than what's wrong with our creations. We are making them
complicated, often more than they need to be, because we arrogantly believe that man
will always be the master of the machine. We turn the cell phone into a public nuisance
and a safety hazard instead of a useful tool because we are too foolish to use it wisely.
We cause sporadic outbreaks of massive "computer errors" because we are stupid and
careless; what we call computer errors are, in fact, idiotic blunders made by human
beings. We are the self-destructive species who turn machines for transportation into
weapons of mass destruction. The real issue regarding technology is not whether it is
good or bad but whether we are grown-up and mature enough to use wisely what we
have created. The evidence suggests that, on the whole, we are not. Indeed, we have

never been ever since we created a tool by fastening a pointed rock to a stick and
then decided that it could also be used to smash the skull of someone we didn't like.

K-12 System: A better fit for students?

Overall the K-12 system has positive and negative effects to the community but despite
the controversies that surrounded it, this will go on and be implemented next year to
grade 1 students and soon. K-12 system could help students in the future for a better
life and chances to have better jobs. And this system is nice because students can have
more lessons that the previous system didnt meet is one advantage and the other is
when you go abroad it you could easily get hired because most countries have this
system as their form of education.

Tasty eats of Indian Streets

The concept of traditional street food has acquired in developed countries with food
streets/food centers emerging as new tourist attractions. Major tourist attractions abroad
invariably have food streets offering exotic local foods. We say that India has fantastic
socio-cultural diversity of street food but, none of cities make room in the list along with
other countries cities. I feel that the Indian government should do something to uplift
famous food street like the Paratthe-wale gali in Delhi and many more so that even our
countrys cities comes into the list as street food also symbolizes our Unity in Diversity.
