Our goal is to raise $5,000 to donate to the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation. As Sheila says, We are all
winners in this raffle as our donation will help purchase a piece of equipment for our hospital.
Of course, one of the biggest draws was the merchant mall. Vendors from
across Canada were there, some fifty or more! Not hard to drop a little
cash and you didn't need to worry about the exchange rate either! Some of
our members that attended took this opportunity to re supply their quilt
rooms with little trinkets like sewing machines and even a long arm! I stuck
to the bits that fit in my suitcase but don't think I wasn't a shade of green
with envy over these ladies purchases.
The next two annual shows will be held in Toronto so if you have ever
wanted to see the sights of Toronto and the Great Lakes, this could be your
opportunity! Watch for the advertisements in the Canadian Quilter or ask
at Guild. Some of us may be needing a roommate and go!
Art Group continued to meet throughout the summer with a Rust Dying workshop in June, Flower Pouning in July and Sun Printing in August. Some members are very good at completing their monthly word challenges which will be displayed at the Quilt Show. The June 11 meeting word was Ring of Fire.

Sunblocking is done by painting fabric with Seta Colour, laying an article on the fabric, exposing it to sun for a
few minutes, allowing the article to dry. Shown below is Gloria Reibins creative use of a rubber doormat and
Dorothea Houseworths use of laser cut balsa wood carvings.

We welcome and encourage you to come to our play sessions and/or take part in the monthly challenge
word. The September 10th meeting will deal with Thread Play, which is bobbin work using thicker decorative thread in the bobbin and couching which involves zig zagging over the top of fabric. Contact Joanne
Niven if you are interested in attending and she will provide the supply list.
The Art Group is looking for a new name. Joanne Niven is accepting suggestions by e-mail, after which the
group will vote on a new name. Please contact Joanne at e-mail: jhvinen@yahoo.ca with your suggestions.
