Vibration and Overpressure Monitoring

Basics of a vibration monitor

An instrument that is used for measuring
and collecting vibration and air or water
overpressure data by recording with various
sensors.

Vibration and Overpressure Monitoring

Why are Vibration monitors used?

Document compliance with local regulations

Protect structures by ensuring limits are not exceeded
Optimize blast performance
Minimize risk of damage or human annoyance
Protect against claims and lawsuits with reports

Regulations
Regulatory controls are
different in each country and
for different applications.
Acceptable limits in
Regulations can range from
2 mm/s (.08 in.) to
50 mm/s (1.97 in.)

Specialty: Underwater Monitoring

Underwater Monitoring Hydrophone
Advances in explosives technology and underwater blasting have allowed
explosives engineers to extend blast design limits while minimizing the impact
to sensitive structures and delicate underwater environments.
Increased worldwide regulatory requirements, has increased the need to
monitor transient overpressure in water.
In order to obtain accurate overpressure information in water, an Instantel
Blastmate III or Minimate Plus monitor, with the high-pressure Instantel
Hydrophone (8 to 500 psi) sensor is recommended for underwater monitoring.
Because damaging high-pressure waves are often of very short duration,
sample rate is a concern; the peak pressure can be missed when monitoring
using a conventional sample rate (1,024 Hz). Extended sample rates up to
65,000 Hz will ensure that the required data is recorded.
