THE FASTENINGS
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
General description
The materials used to connect a rail to a sleeper in the form of
K-type fastening include Steel baseplate, screws, spring clips,
spring clip bolts, double layer washers and intermediate
baseplate, and of HM-type fastening include spikes, angle guide,

plastic baseplate, screws and feeding washers.

Rail baseplates are placed between the foot of rail and the
sleeper. Baseplates are elements that transfer loads transversely
from the rail over a larger surface and provide the elasticity for
attenuation of vibrations.

K TYPE FASTENINGS

K-type fastening system

This fastening system is used in straight lines, switches and
crossings.

THE FASTENINGS
K TYPE FASTENINGS

K-type fastening for concrete sleepers

There is only one screw on each side of the rail. A 6-7 mm
thick baseplate pad is required, and a 2-3 mm thick rail pad.

K-type fastening for wooden sleepers

There are two screws on each side of the rail. In addition, a
3-4 mm thick rail pad is needed.

The tightening torque value:

The tightening torque for the spring clip bolts is 180-200 Nm.
The tightening torque for the screws is 250 Nm.

SKL-14 FASTENING SYSTEM

SKL-14 Fastening system

SKL 14 fastening system is used for concrete sleepers. A screw
on each side of the rail is used to attach spring clips and angle
guide for positioning the rail, and an under-rail plastic
baseplate is placed between the rail and the sleeper.
The position of the rail is secured with angle guide plates. The
lateral forces from the rail are transferred to the concrete
sleeper through the angle guide without causing twisting of
screws or some stress leading to cross slip or any deformation
which would be a disadvantage for the track gauge.
The gauge can be adjusted up to (+10, -10) mm by means of
angles guides with various widths.

SKL-14 FASTENING SYSTEM

Tightening torque value and fixing gap

The tightening torque for the screws is 250 Nm.
The gap between the bottom of the spike and angle guide
should be 0.5 mm during tightening. Measure the gap with a
feeler gauge.

The central curve of the spike prevents rise and overturn of the
rail. There should be approximately 1.5 mm free space

between the central curve of the spike and the rail foot.

SKL-12 FASTENING SYSTEM

SKL-12 baseplate and fastening system for Switches

and Crossings (S&C)
SKL-12 fastening system is used for switches with steel
baseplates and extension joints. Two screws on each side of
the rail are used to attach the baseplate to the sleeper. A 3 - 4
mm thick baseplate pad is required between the steel
baseplate and the sleeper.

SKL-12 FASTENING SYSTEM

The tightening torque value and fixing gap:

A 6 mm rail pad is placed between the rail and baseplate. Rail
pad elasticity should be above 200 kN/mm.
The tightening torque for the spring clip bolts is 180-200 Nm.
The tightening torque for the sleeper screws is 250 Nm.
The free space between the central curve of the spring clip
and the rail should not exceed 2mm (see Figure below)
Measure the gap with a 2-mm feeler gauge.
