KEY NOTES from the Principal

ISAT Testing begins on Monday

Student in third, fourth and fifth grades will be taking the ISAT assessments starting Monday,
March 1st and will continue through Thursday, March 4th. From my discussion with teachers our student
are well prepared for the material covered on these assessments.
Students will start testing first thing in the morning each day and shortly after lunch recess. It is very
important that they are at school on time and ready to go. We are all aware of the value of a good
breakfast and to be well rested for these assessments. It really does make a difference.

Parent Conference Notes and Parent Input Forms

On Thursday March 4th student will be coming home with Parent Teacher conference letters for Spring
Conferences. You will receive a letter requesting a conference with you or a letter offering you the
opportunity to set up a conference if you feel you would like to meet with your child’s teacher.
Included with the conference letter will be a letter and Parent Input Form for student placement for the
2010 and 2011 school year. The Parent Input Form is due no later than March 18th. We begin student
placement shortly after spring break and we need to compile that information as we begin the process.

Athletic Shoe Recycling Returns in April
For the second year, all District 64 schools and offices will collect old athletic shoes for recycling during
Healthy Living month this April. So please set aside old running, aerobic, basketball, tennis or cross
training shoes as you do your spring cleaning. Look for more information in upcoming newsletters.
Thank you from the District 64 Green Team Committee!

Drop Off and pick up of Students

We are noticing parents driving into the teacher parking lot at the end of the day and picking up their
children by the blue playground. Please do not do this. Adding traffic to the parking lot at the busy
dismissal time is very dangerous. Arrange to pick your children up on Manor or even better on Dee since
the majority of students are dismissed to the playground.

Night of the Stars

A quick reminder that Tomorrow, Friday the 25th in the evening, Franklin School will hold it’s fourth
annual Night if Stars. Come see the variety of amazing talent displayed by our Franklin students.

WinterFest
I wanted to take a moment to thank the Franklin PTA, our parents and all of the students for coming to
WinterFest last Saturday and supporting Franklin School. It was a great time!
I wanted to especially thank Leah Zamora, our PTA President for chairing the committee and Aggie
Malin for all of her hard work, since October, gathering donations and prizes for the raffles. A special
thank you to Linda Peterson and Nancy Torres for heading up the silent auction baskets and Sylvia Sagat
for coordinating the teacher lunch raffle. It couldn’t have been done without the help of the countless
parent volunteers setting up and breaking down, helping in the kitchen and supervising the many events
and activities. Your time and dedication were paramount to making this event a success!
