Explanation: Past Simple indicates an action that took
place before the current time, and that has no real
connection with the current time. The action took place in
the past, is finished, and is completely unrelated to the
present.

PAST SIMPLE TENSE

a) Actions in progress at a moment in the past.
E.g.: last night at 9 oclock I was reading a book.
b) Describing a scene.
E.g.: It was an awful morning. It was raining heavily and the wind was blowing.
c) Actions happening at the same time in the past.
E.g.: My mother was cooking while I was reading a book.
