ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2015
The Board would like to extend a warm welcome to all parents and teachers to attend the Annual
General Meeting of the Board of Governors. This will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at
10:00am on the 5th floor of the Elementary School building. The Board values your attendance and
input at this meeting.
What is the Board of Governors?
The Board of Governors is the elected body of the school that includes both parent and non-parent
representatives. The Board sets the overall school policy, creates strategic plans for the future and
supervises the school economy.
The following is a short summary of the role of the Board and the responsibilities of Board members.
An effective Board is one in which the members:
Devote at least 10 hours per month, mostly in the evenings and some weekends, actively
engaged in Board meetings and business.
Serve on at least one Board committee and attend relevant committee meetings.
Attend meetings with Busan City and other outside organizations when necessary.
Work together by consensus, while not being afraid to debate contentious issues.
Leave any personal agendas outside the boardroom door.
Are able to take a long term and over-arching perspective on the school.
Are responsive to the views of others.
Are willing to give the necessary time and commitment to the role both as a Board member and
as a member of the committees that report to the Board.
Leave the daily and general management of the school to those who are entrusted with its task.
Retain strict confidentiality of all discussions.
Maintain a sense of proportion and a sense of humor.
Set objectives for the board and evaluate themselves against those objectives.
Retain clear focus on their objective to improve the learning environment for students.
Board members are voted to the Board by parents of the school and have a two year term in office. At
this time, there are four (4) Board vacancies that have been created by Governors that are retiring.

BIFS is a growing and dynamic school with a strong future ahead of it. Being a Board member requires
you to take a long-term view of the schools development. It is also a very exciting and rewarding
experience. If you believe that you can help BIFS achieve its goals and have the time to dedicate, and
can commit to at least two years as a board member, please consider putting your name forward as a
potential Board member.
If you would like to be considered as a candidate for any of the available positions, please complete
one of the relevant forms attached hereto. As a candidate you should be nominated and seconded by
different people, who must be parents of children currently enrolled at BIFS. In addition, we ask for a
short biography and small photograph which can be shared with other parents as part of the voting
form.
All nomination forms and biographies must be returned to the school office by Monday, September
14, 2015. Voting forms will then be sent home with students to be returned at school no later than the
start of the AGM on Saturday, October 3, 2015.
