18 A MEMORIAL

19 RECOMMENDING GOVERNOR BILL RICHARDSON FOR THE POSITION OF

20 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE MOTION PICTURE ASSOCIATION OF

21 AMERICA.

22

23 WHEREAS, Bill Richardson's public career as a congressman,

24 federal cabinet secretary, ambassador to the United Nations,

25 international troubleshooter and governor of New Mexico has

.182391.1
1 earned him a reputation as a dedicated and tireless, although

2 somewhat rumpled, public servant; and

3 WHEREAS, a hallmark of Governor Richardson's service has

4 been the phenomenal expansion of the film industry in New

5 Mexico, or "Tamalewood", as it is now known, which has

6 generated countless new jobs (or jobs that are difficult to

7 count, depending on who's counting), more tax revenue (or just

8 more taxes for the rest of us) and several local government

9 ordinances aimed at abating the annoyances that come when

10 hundreds of pushy Hollywood-types with their damn trailers full

11 of equipment set up camp at 3:00 a.m. in your previously

12 peaceful neighborhood; and

13 WHEREAS, Governor Richardson, or "Hollywood Bill", as he

14 surely by now must be known to someone, somewhere, is uniquely

15 suited to bring his command of international, national and

16 state policy and politics to the equally demanding film

18 association of America; and

19 WHEREAS, Mr. Richardson's further qualifications for the

20 position include his insider's knowledge of Washington, D.C.,

21 his unequaled vision of sustainable economic development

22 (which, years from now, will manifest itself in New Mexico as

23 movie stars and astronauts routinely and casually mingle in the

24 streets) and his ability to recite verbatim the motion picture

25 association of America's movie ratings system guidelines; and

.182391.1
- 2 -
1 WHEREAS, Governor Richardson's immediate accession to the

2 position of executive director of the motion picture

3 association of America would be the best thing that could

4 happen for both the association and certain high-profile

5 members of the New Mexico senate and others closely associated

6 with the senate;

7 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE

8 OF NEW MEXICO that it highly recommend Governor Bill Richardson

9 for the position of executive director of the motion picture

10 association of America and wish him well in that pursuit.
